Are these tiles overpriced?

I am buying some ornate floor tiles for my bathroom refurb, which are £59 per sqm. I don't mind paying that for a fancy floor, but also need some plain wall tiles to go with them. The supplier suggests some in their own range that are the same background colour, so will work well, but they are also £59 per sqm. The walls are a much greater area, so this will work out at about £1500. I can afford it, but am I a mug for not hunting around for something cheaper? It's difficult to match colours online. I could go to a local showroom - just wondering if I'm likely to find anything significantly cheaper in exactly the right colour and reasonable quality.

Have a look at Boutique Stone they do lots of plainer tiles for around the £38 to £40 a square m. Also if you're looking for greyish large format tiles, Mandarin Stone have quite a few, and some are in their 50% off sale. Boutique Stone is free shipping over £1k I think, and Mandarin Stone the shipping was about £50

I think that's really quite expensive for that size and format of tile @kranium . Do you have a sample of the floor tile? If so I'd start either ordering samples or go to a homebase/b&q place and try to match the background colour.

What are the fancy tiles like? I spend a lot of time looking at tiles at the moment as on to my 3rd bathroom in 3 years, so maybe have seen something that might go.

That seems a lot for a simple grey tile.

Look at Al Murad online, I used them for my bathroom around £35p sqm and there was a sale on so got a discount at checkout too.

I'd love to see the floor tiles too, I'm going to be doing the main bathroom soon and looking for a more traditional style for that one.

I have similar floor tiles and used a white metro with pale grey grout. with them which was less than half that price.( in fact I think around £18 from an actual tiling shop - not B and Q or similar. However I only tiled the shower enclosure and around the sink and I realise you may not like metro or want wall to wall tiling. I didn’t want a fully tiled bathroom.

kranium · 26/05/2023 14:02

Thanks all, I'll check out those options.

I'd go to topps tiles show room if you can - great tiles for a reasonable price

HotelNotPortofino · 26/05/2023 14:06

We’ve always found Topps very good too.
mid you want a trade account there you just need to show headed paper with your name on it ;)
i’m self employed and offers various proof of building related job, but no, DH had to knock up a sheet of headed paper as that’s what they accept 😆

SwedishDeathClearance · 26/05/2023 14:11

Don't go for grey- it is the avocado of the future
It is already really dated: marble, white tiles or natural stone are the only ones that dont age terribly.

caringcarer · 26/05/2023 14:25

What about these. They are only £20 PSM. I put them in a btl kitchen floor and they look good and clean well.

I think you need to shop around a bit more. These tiles aren't special enough to spend so much on them. I've seen similar styles for half the price.

Only my opinion but I don't think I'd go with more grey than is in the floor tiles as it could look quite cold .

If you're definitely sure about the grey floor tiles i'd either go with a plain white tile, square would mirror the shape of the floor tiles or a flat brick shape with a light grey grout. Plain white gloss tiles would be under £15sqm.

like these

I've used this grout before and it's nice subtle light grey not like it sounds gunmetal
