Kitchen cabinets - handle preventing other one from opening (pics)

I'll preface this by saying that the kitchen is a funny shape and I don't doubt that it's been hard to fit.

But - I got home from work today and immediately spotted this issue. If we install a kitchen handle on the narrow unit (as per the photo), it prevents the other (corner) unit from opening Confused It's the same issue in the opposite corner too.

I've not spoken to the builder yet - I'd like to think he's aware of it, but I've previously caught him installing a pull out unit upside down(!!) so maybe not. Scope for moving the units is going to be limited.

I can only think of two solutions

  • accept I have the world's most expensive blanking plate there and never use the units as I can't open them
  • find some sort of invisible handle that won't be seen once the worktop is in place (does such a thing exist - any suggestions?)

FML!

You can install push catches instead of handles

wildfirewonder · 24/05/2023 20:46

You can just open the cupboards by holding the edge of the door, usually.

We have one small cupboard that has no handle, presumably for this reason (wasn't us who fitted it).

^^ it’s not a sensitive image

I guess it could look a bit animal penis-у if you really squint 😆

That's filthy!

It should have been installed with a corner post so they can open with handles in place. But if you can't get it fixed then push to open catches sound like a good idea.

I had exactly the same issue. My handles were too “D” shaped. The apex of the D was too high.
My fitter and I chose a more shallow D shape, which solved the problem.
You could choose handles that are not so high? That don’t stick out so much?
Would that be a solution?

You need to get a better look at a proper penis….. go do it and report back…

Either a push latch or a recessed finger pull. The former has the advantage that you won't see anything (except a cupboard without a handle, which might look odd in itself). The latter might be more reliable and more intuitive to use.

Take your glasses off and think dog lipstick-y bits

I guess

why it’s marked as sensitive I don’t know 😆😆😆
