How to use this space ?

We've got a section off our upstairs landing that used to be an airing cupboard housing the boiler, which we had removed upon moving in because it a) contained asbestos; b) looked ugly; c) had a lot of wasted space under a false floor. It measures 183cm x 95cm. We need to rebuild something in that space.

DH says several similar properties nearby have either used this as a "study nook" and put a desk in there (although can be a bit dark) or put a cupboard with shelves.

Any other ideas of how to use it?

Thanks!

Do you already have a decent linen cupboard? A utility room? If not then deffo one or both of those. A friend turned a big upstairs cupboard into a laundry room with her washer and dryer stacked on top of each other, an ironing board permanently up and lots of folding and hanging space. She never has to take any washing downstairs and I am seriously jealous.

Also she does not need to shout over the combined washing machine, dishwasher, hob racket while making dinner! I am not with kirstie allsop on many things but I agree on this!)

I'd go with a laundry room too. Place to keep the laundry bins, ironing, spare loo rolls & bleach.

If those pipes are still running hot regardless of the boiler not being there you could still put a cupboard over it with shelves and treat it as an airing cupboard!
I've done a mock up design on this companies website so you get the idea but you can do this as well! It'll let you design your own and save on the cost of a carpenter making it from scratch. Hope this helps!

Utility room.

Findyourneutralspace · 23/05/2023 16:11

I’d make a laundry room. I’d love to have my washer and dryer upstairs, then laundry would never need to go downstairs.

Utility room without doubt

Those suggesting a laundry room as "laundry would never have to go downstairs"...do you not dry anything garden outside in the summer?

Thanks everyone for your input. We’re leaning towards putting a laundry cupboard and to store our linen. Fun begins now with designing it and getting quotes.

cheers all!

definitely store room of some sort. you can use it to store suitcases and boxes of christmas decorations and camping gear or sports kit or that kind of thing.

How do you get outside then to hang it out ?

I'd keep part of it as an airing cupboard. I couldn't do without mine. The pipes would be enough to keep it warm.
