Who is responsible?

Last year we had our driveway redone which included putting small white stones along the fenced border to our neighbour. We are on a hill and the rain water has led to running off some of the white from the stone on to our neighbour’s driveway which is old red brick and it is now stained in parts.
He claims he has tried to remove the white staining but failed.
Is it our responsibility to try and find a solution or not?

The changes you have made to your property have adversely affected his so yes, you should sort it.

When a neighbours property was causing damage to ours we contacted our insurance. They sent a surveyor round. I’m assuming the surveyors report was sent to our neighbours insurance because the issue was fixed promptly and we were not out of pocket.

Why would you think this is not your problem to fix?!

KievLoverTwo · 20/05/2023 02:56

Yes.

I am a bit surprised at a question being posed that's just common decency really.

Maybe get someone in to jet wash it. But they need to go.

Haven't you already got a thread about this?

caringcarer · 20/05/2023 07:56

You caused the problem so you need to fix it.

As others have said of course you are responsible. Your poor neighbour- I would be livid at the damage and at your attitude.

It’s hard to know what will fix the damage - in your shoes I would either contact my insurers or offer to pay for a reputable power washing company to clean the driveway.

you also need to remove those silly stones or this will keep happening.

SunnySaturdayMorning · 20/05/2023 08:57

Of course it is, because you’ve damaged his property.

Privacylover · 20/05/2023 09:02

Yes its your responsibility . If its just dust from the stone staining the brick powerwashing would work short term. If you set the border stone in resin it might stop it reoccurring 🤷‍♂️
