Fun magical tips for selling our house

So this is only meant as light hearted fun.
We have a statue of St Joseph looking out the window towards the road, but I couldn't bear to bury him upside down as some believe will help sell the house. I might have to bury him by the front door to give an extra boost!

We also burnt a green candle rolled in patchouli oil and basil, and a star carved on it. This actually resulted in an interested buyer but they haven't sold theirs yet.

Apart from all the usual drop the price marketing stuff, has anyone tried any other juju or magical things to help their sale along?
You never know, it might just help!

When we were having a horrendous time trying to sell our old flat I found a charm that was supposed to help. I can't remember the precise details, but it involved taking a small, treasured item from each room and carefully packing them in a little box that was to be placed in the corner nearest the front door. It was supposed to attract new residents to your home, and the ONLY thing it attracted was the biggest fucking spider I'd ever seen, that spread itself out along the skirting directly above my so-called 'lucky' charm box.

Spider got evicted, box got dumped and the flat sold about a month later no thanks to either of them.

The smell of coffee is supposed to make a good impression, I've heard, and baking bread.

Spend a fortune on renovations. Then you will hear viewers muttering "This awful stuff will have to be ripped straight out..."

Clean your windows inside and out.

Ksb6 · 17/05/2023 14:59

@Geppili yes I did notice the present the birds left on my window. I thought it was lucky if a bird pooped on you! That's gone btw!

Ha love it!
We just sold our house within 2 weeks of being on the market (touch wood!!)

We had a massive de-clutter, and everything that was left we mostly stashed in boxes in the wardrobe, so very few personal possessions on display.
I cleaned every wall with sugar soap and we touched up a bit of paintwork.
Cleaned the windows to be spotless and hoovered and steam mopped all the floors.
We had the stairs carpet steam cleaned
Flowers in the living room and colourful plants in the garden pots.
Lawn mowed and garden very tidy.
A couple of aspirational touches, like Aesop hand wash and Grind coffee.

No idea if any of this swayed it but we needed to feel like we were giving ourselves the best chance. Good luck!

The go to seems to be a poncy garden table and with a bottle and wine glasses.

I’ve scrubbed my house from top to bottom and the pictures look great on RM but I’ve still only had one viewing and I’ve been live for over two weeks! I’m considering tipping the pans upside down on the hob lol

Giant wall clock either in the kitchen or living room.

And I do mean giant. The bigger the clock, the faster it will sell.

That would so put me off.

Heeheehee!

Actually I just had a really strong feeling that it would happen. Now we have a buyer and had an offer accepted. So we move onto the fun and games of paperwork and the nail biting wait to exchange 😜

Personally I'm mostly looking at location and condition. All the smell of bread or coffee or cute stuff on the walls wouldn't sway me if I didn't like a place. Too much 'presentation' might make me suspicious. Dog smell might make me think a bit, and I once kept an eye on a house for an elderly neighbour while he was away. This involved going in to turn lights on and off etc. It became clear when you walked in that he cooked a lot of fish! Boiled not fried. The smell was all over the house and I reckoned it had got in the soft furnishings and wallpaper. Anyhow, he sold it quite easily a couple of years later. The buyers are still there down and seem happy enough. They did redecorate.

Lift your home and place it in a highly sought after area, in the catchment for good schools.

Are you getting confused with the Child of Prague and good weather?
