Finding house to buy when sold

We have sold our house STC. Trying to find something. Nothing remotely meeting our requirements have come onto the market since accepting (2 weeks).

Our estate agent obviously knows what we are after and we are scouring rightmove, but is it worth speaking to other agents to see if anything is in the pipeline or will it just be "check rightmove".

Not sure if there is any point "registering" as proceed-able buyers elsewhere or not.

Hi OP currently in the same position

Definitely register/make friends with other EAs. As a proceedable buyer you’re valuable to their clients, if no one proceedable on their books is making an offer, they’ll get in touch with you.

unfortunately it’s all a bit of a monopoly run by estate agents, letting who they want to know, so you do need to make yourself known to them

@Areyootakingthepish yes I'll do that. Although the market is sooooo slow right now.

Definitely register with other EAs. I would also leaflet drop if there are specific roads you would like to live on.

Definitely register with all the estate agents. Some estate agents market exclusively to their list of registered buyers to start with, and only go to Rightmove if they haven't had any luck with that approach. (We are selling our house with an estate agent who uses this strategy).

Pop into each EA and ask if they have anything coming on to the market. Houses usually take 4-5 days to make their way onto RM.

RidingMyBike · 11/05/2023 15:35

Definitely register with them - I worked my way down the list of local agents on Rightmove and registered with 32(!).
Some don't work with registration lists any more but many will notify you first of potential houses coming on the market. We got some viewings in before the houses were on RM.

I only just found out that not all EAs use Rightmove. Try onthemarket.com as well, there might be some on there that aren't on Rightmove.

Great thanks!! I will ring round some in the morning

We registered with Buyers market Edinburgh. They match sellers & buyers so we didn't have to keep checking for new properties on the market etc and inevitably losing out if too late. I think they're only covering Edinburgh at the moment cause quite new but definitely look out for them in the future cause they've been brilliant. We were matched with sellers who chased us instead of us chasing them cause we were on their buyers target map for the selers to get in touch if a good match. We were updated every day with new properties 😁

We did this and managed to view and offer on one before it went on the market, so definitely worth contacting them all if they know of any coming up.

register yourself with as many estate agents as possible.. even go into some towns where you think you would move to as there will be estate agents there that are small and not very well known.. spend a day out and about and pop into them, i found ones ive never heard of and registered..
