Sorry if this posted twice! I cant see the previous post so I don’t know if its up or not.
But basically everything is clogged It’s so gross and i’m not sure what to do!! I thought I fixed the issue with drain gel but apparently not): And my shower is also still clogged and dirty water keeps coming up. The toilet is full now but very dry like all the waste is completely dried out and disgusting and theres a lot of what looks like toilet paper. Should I call a drain engineer or a Plumber for this job? And how much might they charge me ? I’m honestly too embarrassed to think about calling but I know I have no choice

It cost us £90 last year for a company to come out on a Sunday. I think for a weekday it was around 65£ but as it was an emergency we couldn't wait. Lanes for drains is the company who came out, they were sent by our home insurance company.

I should add that we had emergency call out option with our home insurance so we weren't charged, the amount I mentioned above is the quote we were given had we paid for it ourselves.

I used to work for a water and sewerage company.

Answer these questions.

  1. Are your neighbours (in other buildings not same block if flats) also experiencing drain problems?
  2. Are downstairs sinks and toilets affected?

If the answer to these is Yes then contact your Sewerage company. They are the only authority allowed to access the public sewer.. They may also clear private drains for a fee.

Happened to me and it turned out to be the water boards problem as the problem was outside our boundary and it had l backed up (years of the previous owners putting sanitary towels and tampons down the loo as it turned out!).

ArcticBells · 09/05/2023 20:39

How are you managing - do you have a second loo to use?

gogogoji · 10/05/2023 07:09

A little drain buster liquid isn't going to clear a blocked main 😂

Invest in a BIG rubber plunger. Top up loo with hot soapy water.. work plunger up and down with some effort behind it.
It will either clear.. in which case follow up with lots more hot soapy water.. or it wont ..in which case you have plently of good advice upthread..

The OP has said she's put wipes down the drain Shock Confused

I would imagine it's well beyond a plunger stage

angelcakes95 · 10/05/2023 09:48

@littleblackcat27 No i didn’t? also a drain engineer came to fix the problem. turns out there was a huge stone stuck somewhere that caused the blockage
