How do I remove this bell please?

This was here when I moved in, it seems to be a wired doorbell extension, but I could be wrong? There is no wired doorbell and it is on the landing by the bathroom.
I would ike to remove the bell part if nothing else but not sure how to go about it/if it is live. Entire house is a bodge up of bad wiring and bad plumbing and no-one has been able to make sense of it.
This thing annoys me and I feel I should be able to remove it but don't want to short anything (or me).

Could it be an old phone amplifier?
My ILs had one because he was VERY DEAF

Can you turn off the mains?
Then could cut through the yellow wires & wrap insulating tape round the ends?

It’s an internal sounder/ siren for the alarm system .

I did wonder, thank you. Question is, if the alarm is disabled can I remove it without problems?

I'd be inclined to find a local electrician and pay for a half-hour callout for that. Get it sorted properly.

I was planning to get someone in when they are back from holidays, will add it to the list.

Thanks everyone.

You can buy little clips called Wago connectors. If you switch off the electricity at the mains you can remove the bell by disconnecting the red and black wires from the yellow ones. You then attach a Wago clip on to the red and black wires, one clip per wire. This is a really safe way to stop the wires from shorting, much better than wrapping tape around them as tape will fail over time. Unscrew all the plastic boxes etc. Push the wires and clips back into the hole in the wall and cover it over with a blanking plate. Then switch the electric back on.
Before you touch the wires you should double check whether they’re still live, as sometimes circuits are mislabelled on the fuse board.
You can buy the clips in small quantities on eBay. They come in different sizes to enable you to connect multiple wires together, but you only need the smallest ones with the fewest holes in. Make sure all the bare wire is housed inside the clip.

Just to be clear - you don’t connect the red and black wires together in the same clip. You use a clip per wire just to seal off the end of the wire, and leave the two ends separate.

looking at the pictures the alarm is turned off , removing the siren front would trigger the tamper switch and set it off . There should be a fuse somewhere or it might be on its own breaker in the consumer unit ? Make sure they are turned off then you can just remove the siren and backplate if you like.

you can snip the wires off and tape them up . If your thinking of having a new alarm then just disconnect the wire ( tape up) and leave it dangling so they can reuse it if they need to.

alarm systems are low voltage ( 12v) so there’s no danger of getting a shock from it.

if you want to totally disable it remove the battery in the bell box and the battery in the control panel as sometimes when they run down they can set the alarm off.

If your never having another alarm then just cut the lot off and poke the wire up in to the ceiling/floor and fill the hole in.

Thank you @Helenahandkart for your time in typing that out for me and @Diyextension for explaining.

I have left it exactly as it was in the photos and am going to think it over before I decide anything.

Should I assume it won't make any noises?

There was an issue with random outbursts of sound that were difficult to turn off, which is why the alarm has been partially disabled. I need to ensure it doesn't have a mind of its own before I decide.

Having to traipse around the house and garage several times a night (and disturb the nighbours) isn't in my future plans.
