Moving tomorrow after 26 years here and last minute wobbles after viewing again 🙈

We’re moving tomorrow. Been here 26 years. Last viewed house in September for second time, loved it both times and haven’t seen anything since that comes close. It’s a major upsize for us and ticks almost all boxes. Vendor waited whilst we sold ours, which took four months. So why am I now almost feeling sick? Hubby feeling the same. We just went round again to sort WiFi, garage etc and it just didn’t feel the same. It’s half empty and quite messy and just felt unloved and we’ve come away feeling a bit down. Is this just normal last minute nerves? Will it be better once our things are in there? I think the last few weeks have been so stressful (we only exchanged last week) it seems to have taken the excitement away. I’ve thought about this house every day since we first saw it last July and am now
so scared we’re making a mistake.

You’re not. You’re nervous. That’s different. They’re moving tomorrow, of course it looks messy and unloved! And in 48 hours again it will look beautiful and loved again.

That’s what I keep thinking, if our buyers saw our house today they might feel the same! 😬

Once you arrive with the keys and see it empty, start putting the things you love in their new locations around the house it'll all be fine. Remember to pop some teabags and the kettle and milk in a box to keep with you for a cuppa once you're in! Good luck with the move

Good luck with the move! You’ll love it again once you’re in, promise!

Also- stop questioning it, it’s too late to change your minds now anyway, positive pants on!

Completely normal to be nervous 😊 especially when leaving a home you’ve been in for so long!!
Your new place will be great! You’ll arrive tomorrow and it will be empty rather than messy. All your stuff will arrive and it will feel like you did when you seen it the first time 😊

Tell us about it! What are you going to do with all the new space you have? 😊 Do you have any initial plans to do work/decorating? 😊

Don't forget to make your bed up in your new home as soon as you can. Believe me after a day of moving house being able to collapse straight into bed is bliss!
I have moved house 6 times, so I have a bit of experience.😜
Good luck with your move.

It’s totally normal to feel this way. When everything is taken out of a house it looks scruffy and soulless IME. Once your furniture etc. it’s in, it feels much better.

Good luck 💐

When I walked into my first flat I literally cried for an hour because the carpet was so much more worn than I remembered and there was a mark on the kitchen worktop that they'd covered with something for viewings. It's totally normal. It was fine once I moved all may stuff in.

It’s the possessions that you put in a house that make it feel like a home.

What you saw today was the new house at its worst. Don’t panic. It will be fine.

Make sure you have a box with tea/coffee making essentials close at hand and yes yes to making beds up ASAP, so you get a good first night’s sleep.

good luck!

Take vacuum cleaner to vac before putting your things in. Antibacterial cleaning spray and cloth to clean wash basins, bath etc so you know it's clean before you use anything or unpack. Once you have your own things into the house it will be home. You will love the extra space.

I'm newly in somewhere and had massive wobbles but I love it.

You will too.

Of course it is not a show home right now. That's YOUR job - enjoy it. Nesting is excellent.

It always looks worse than you remember and where they’ve taken stuff the walls and carpet will look worse.

get your stuff in and make a cup of tea.

You have chosen a good solid space in a good area. You can make it a home and to your taste over the coming months. It just looks different undressed-dont we all!

On moving in when its empty we always notice a few imperfections or issues to sort. We always want to clean it even if its clean.

Its a huge investment and nerves and the build up. A lot more space makes a huge difference to stress levels when everyone can spread out.

Thanks everyone for your positive thoughts. I’m not good with change and this is a major one for us!

Good luck. Change is hard when you are doing it but worth it - and essential to growth. I hope you look round in a few days time and think, YES.

There is a great description in change management: ‘appreciation of the current state’. It’s how people feel when they’re on the brink of a change, even a much wanted one. It’s the reason we often like our hair the most right before a haircut, even if we have been desperate to get it done, for example. We are clinging to the familiar like a comfort blanket! But you’ll be fine. I hope the move is going well.

Hi everyone just wanted to say thank you for all your positive messages. It all turned out wonderfully and we are very happy indeed with our new home. As soon as we entered the house on moving day it felt right, and even more so when our things were moved in. To my surprise I've hardly given our old house a second thought. Thanks for all your encouragement!

@Claire5417 So glad you’re feeling positive about it now and loving your new house!! Change can be so nerve wracking but there’s a reason you loved it enough to go for it in the first place 😊
Wishing you lots of happy memories in your new home 😊
