Does my attic need a lining???

My loft space seems fine but is this normal? To see some daylight? The tiles and guttering are intact but it alarms me to see this -which is at the corner of an apex. Dust does blow in a bit.

Been told is normal. 1930s house. Does there not need to be a lining? A breathable one I assume. And could I fix it on myself?

Normally they have felt linings if it's slate. Not sure for tiles though. Is it insulated because you want that more. Makes 10C difference IME at least.

Most of the loft has been converted and is a bedroom now and is all insulated. That bit is a crawl space really accessible via loft room. Was told we needed to keep it like that as ventilation for the roof. Floor, ceiling below is fully insulated. Just a bit worried about dust/water ingress etc.

It’s fine in the 30s they didn’t use felt the tiles had motar to fill the gaps over the years this drops off leavings the gaps for daylight

whilst it’s fine but not ideal and obviously has insulation issues

the only way to fix/upgrade this is a re re roof tiles off felt on
chances are the tiles will be brittle and once you start moving them they crumble so u will need new ones
DON’T get that spray foam backing it makes your house un mortgageable
at this age the roof will be coming to the end of its life anyway

if it’s not leaking leaving it alone starting fiddling with it you’ll have problems

Thanks. Insulation not really an issue as most of loft is a bedroom now and well insulated. This bit was left as a crawl space. It’s just the dust I don’t want. I need to store stuff in there. In boxes obviously.
