How do you know if a house needs rewiring

Is there anyway to tell if a house needs rewiring by looking at the electricity box only? Thanks

When I moved into our current house, the fuse board was just that, a board with old fashioned fuses, and one of the blocks had 'Empire made' stamped on it. 😂

Not unreasonably, it all needed replacing. It cost £10k in 2015 for a four bed house

Best to get an electrician in to do an EICR.

@Daftasabroom we seem to need to change bulbs quite often and I don't think that should be necessary nowadays? We've been in the house 5years and the house is 1930's but don't know when everything would have last been looked at.

Definitely not, especially if you have LED lamps which last a lot longer than the old bulbs.

Unless the house is rented and you are the landlord, there's no obligation for anyone to do an EICR, but if you have concerns and doubts then it's a good way to work out everything that needs to be done, in one hit.

@isthewashingdryyet that sounds worrying!
@filka will definitely get it done asap for peace of mind.
