Bath plug fitting (pic attached)

So possibly the most boring thread ever....but how on earth do I fit this? I think I may need an additional part, but can't see any instructions or info online. The plug hole itself doesn't have anything in it....just an empty hole (if that makes sense!) TIA

They sell this type on Amazon, they say it needs to be compatible, so the same as the one taken out, but the screw on the end adjusts it.

@LaLaLaNotListeningNotListening thank you for your reply and info. This is the one taken out (broken in two bits!), some I'm wondering if I got the wrong type??

The new plug you have is the same as my bathroom sink plug. There is a lever behind my tap that lifts it up, and you control the amount of lift by how far you extend the screw. I would guess it's not the right kind for your bath? Is there a lever on your bath tap?

@Runzilla ,no no lever....I think i have the wrong one then! More complicated that I thought!

It looks like yours might be what's called a "clicker" or "click-clack" waste - the type you press down on the plug to engage it, and then press again to disengage?

If so, this YouTube video has some guidance on replacement. Yours looks similar, albeit it has some sort of strainer attachment, and is broken into two pieces. The video is for a sink, so if it's for a bath, you'd need to make sure you got a correctly sized (i.e. larger) type as a replacement.

The plug you've bought is for a "pop-up" waste (controlled e.g. by a lever on the tap as PP says, or possibly by a knob on the bath itself), which is a totally different thing. Even then, the one you've bought may be for a sink rather than a bath (it's not clear from the picture).

A short video showing how to replace a click-clack (pop up) basin waste. The top of the waste is unscrewed from the mechanism first. Next the mechanism is lu...
