Best way to remove vinyl tile adhesive

So, we put some cheap vinyl tiles down in our bathroom during lockdown. As we didn't do our research properly, it turns out the adhesive wasn't that strong and over time the tiles have shifted all over the shop and look a mess.

I'm trying to remove them but wondered if anyone had any wonderful tips for removing the sticky residue that's left behind on the sheet vinyl that was the original flooring?

Thanks

Why do you want to? Why not lift the original sheet of vinyl?

Mainly because finances can't stretch to that at the moment unfortunately.

It's at a point where the corners of the current tiles have jammed up to vacuum and it's leaving sharp edges which isn't great with bare feet. Also, I'm frankly embarrassed when I have visitors.

Cooking oil worked for me. Also spirit-based cleansers- but they are more expensive and not great to be breathing the fumes.

My son and I laid new vinyl in our bathroom. If you can spend £20 then you should be able to get a roll end to fit. If you pull up the old vinyl in one piece then you can use it as a template to draw on the new one before cutting and laying. It is much easier than you might think.
To get the glue off if you aren't going to take the vinyl up try white spirit (or even nail varnish remover) on a rag. Any solvent should do it. Make sure you ventilate the room well and dispose of the rag outside.
