Would you mind sharing how much painters and decorators have charged recently?

we have only ever painted ourselves but need to hallway and stairwell - three storey- doing as it’s too high for us to reach - could anyone share a general amount they would expect - even if it’s day rate and how much you would see done in a day?

just trying to get a feel before I get quotes

ShyMaryEllen Wow, where do you buy paint? It was Dulux Trade paint - we are not Farrow and Ball fans - and he gave us back what was left over although not a great deal of course. I reckon the paint will have cost about £60/70 including discount and then he probably charged about £130 per day.

Did a really clean, thorough job just over a year ago now and still looks great. Will definitely use him again.

Oops sorry ShyMaryEllen I should definitely have added that we didn't change any colours. Kept everything the same - very neutral - and just changed the carpet once it was done.

We therefore only needed one good coat.

Should have realised that many would be changing colours which would involve primers and more than one coat meaning much higher costs for the paint.

My apologies! I am such a drip at times.😂

I had a small bedroom 6ft x 9ft. It was one wall as wardrobes cover the other wall. The charged £750 we supplied all the materials. It took three days.

We wanted more of the house done but can’t afford it.

Jeez, you've properly been scammed there. You could've got several rooms done for that!

No worries 😀

We had a complete change of colour, so yes, it took primer and more than one coat.

It's £100 a day in Northumberland

Were you in the house at the time? What were they doing with themselves for 3 days? I painted my daughter's room in a day - no wardrobes, so four walls, one with a chimneybreast. I was WIPED but I did it.

I'm paying £1500 to have a very small 2 bedroom house painted in late May and expect it to take about 5 days. He's supplying the (bog standard white emulsion). Not woodwork. Spray paint thing.

It depends on the level of prep rewired. I can do a room in a day, 2 coats of emulsion and woodwork too IF there’s no filling etc done. I just paid a guy to do a room which was borderline needing plaster skimmed as the walls and ceiling were so bad, but he did it all with filling and did a great job. It did take 3 days though
