Chelsea, London

Has anyone lived here? What’s it like to live there?

DH and I lived in London for a few years (Marylebone) before working overseas. We are now returning, and looking at renting a one bedroom flat. Chelsea isn’t our usual kind of place as a) we are professionals, not wealthy
b) seems too expensive usually. However, we’ve spotted a flat right in the heart of Chelsea that’s within budget and looks lovely.

I lived in Chelsea for 8 years and loved it.

I lived in Westminster for a while, and then in Battersea and would cross the river, walk up the Kings Road and zig zag across to Kensington Gardens and through to get to work in Notting Hill. It is probably one of the best places in the UK to live if you can afford it! Beautiful houses, lovely shops, amazing restaurants and cafes, gardens and green spaces, gyms, high end beauty salons, museums, and walkable to everywhere - I think the only downside would be that many of your neighbours will be super rich (tax exiles or with vast amounts of inherited wealth) so it may not feel very ‘real’ - but even with that, if I could afford it, I would!

My favourite place I've ever lived was in Chelsea. It was so convenient for everything; work, shopping, eating out, clubs, and our flat was gorgeous too.

10 years on and I still miss it. Would move back in a heartbeat if it wasn't for that small matter of requiring at least £5m for a 3 bed house plus garden in the area I'd want to be in.

Go for it, if you can, you will love it!

Beautiful neighbourhood obviously. Flat might be tiny though

Leftoverssandwich · 30/04/2023 11:50

Sorry if this is obvious but it’s born of experience! It’s not a leasehold flat with a very short lease is it?

Pinkdelight3 · 01/05/2023 09:20

@Leftoverssandwich does that matter if they're renting?

TizerorFizz · 01/05/2023 09:39

I think a small flat would be in a more lively area. I think Chelsea is great. You might get bigger with space to work at home a bit further out though!

Doh, missed that!

In that case, prepare for some serious flaw if it’s mysteriously cheap for the area.

Thank you for your experiences. It is not mysteriously cheap for the area. It’s just over 3000 a month for a one bed. We had just assumed that it would be more expensive than that. We work long hours in the office so don’t need heaps of space.
