External or internal blinds

I have a huge window/sliding door combination which means the back of the extension is basically all glass. In the summer it is boiling. I just had the doors replaced so they're now sliding instead of outward opening flappy annoyances. There are x4 small windows above each door panel because it was too high for floor to ceiling.

To add to the issue, there's no recess. The blind when I moved in was a vertical blind that was screwed into the plasterboard ceiling which naturally fell down.

I'm considering external blinds as they're supposed to be super efficient for energy and keeping heat out. Anyone had experience of these?

If not practical for cost or whatever, what's the best solution for sliding door blinds? Window fitters said can get clip in frame ones but can't see how that's possible with sliding doors.

I need to get on it before the summer heat hits!

Wildcard option but have you thought about an awning or pergola thing? The angle of the sun in summer is nearly 45 degrees at midday, so it wouldn't have to be long to block out a decent amount without ruining your view.

I did think about this but we get a lot of wind plus I still want something that would close at night really. Thanks for replying though Smile
