How would you lay out this room?

Needs to fit a double bed (for occasional, not every day, use) and a desk for me to wfh a couple of days a week.

If I put the bed on the wall with the door, it comes right to the doorframe and blocks the light switch. The radiator us under the window so not sure if that would look odd? The other idea i had was having it lengthways along the window so the headboard is opposite the wardrobe? The wardrobe will just open, but it will be a squeeze.

Thoughts?

You need a sofa bed

Courgettefritters · 29/04/2023 09:25

Agreed! But we already have the bed, so if there is a way of shoehorning it in for now, that would be preferable!

Pressed too soon….or a bed where one stores under the other. Okay it’s not a true double but it sleeps two people comfortably. They have proper mattresses.

we had one and it was so comfortable that we kept the main bed as a spare when we moved.

Sliding doors on the wardrobe?

Courgettefritters · 29/04/2023 09:46

Yes this could be an option! They're pretty ugly doors so definitely not opposed to changing them, depending on ease/cost.

Does the door open that way? So you have to close the door to switch the light on? If so, I'd change the door round, odd if it's that way. Where actually is the light switch if the bed would block it? Surely it's higher than the bed and not too far that you couldn't just reach and use it? I'd like the bed there, so I could have a deal under the window.

*desk

NoSquirrels · 29/04/2023 10:09

Is it a very high headboard, if it blocks the light switch? Is the headboard removable?

Soontobe60 · 29/04/2023 10:12

Take the headboard off and put it next to the door.

Courgettefritters · 29/04/2023 10:16

Not a particularly high headboard, but an unusually low light switch! Would mean no room for a bedside table either, although that's probably not essential.

Will the room be used more as an office, or more as a spare bedroom? If it’s primarily an office I’d want my desk in the best possible place (for me that would be under the window). So I’d make compromises on the bed position, including moving the light switch if necessary.

CatOnTheChair · 29/04/2023 10:31

Turn the door round so it opens onto the wall.
Bed along door wall, with light switch accessible when you enter, but above the bed.
Desk to suit the light/glare/remaining space
