Can anyone local to the area please advise what it's like around Gorse Hill in Stretford please? Would you say it's 'up and coming' in the way Levenshulme might be? Thank you.

I have moved from Gorse Hill and having lived all over the UK (including a long time spent in Richmond in London), I would say Gorse Hill has a lot going for it. It’s very friendly with a strong sense of community. I have been made to feel very welcome and part of the community. Lots of people locally have chosen to stay here for four or five decades. It is reasonably priced for housing and has great local businesses (Cutting Crew, Mia’s Sandwich bar) which are brill and very keenly priced. It has great sized houses (my mid terrace is a Tardis) which have gorgeous Victorian features inside.

It is closer to town than Stretford and Chorlton. It is very handy to Media city. It has great shopping nearby, including Co-op corner shop, close proximity to the Trafford Centre, big Tesco, Lidl and White City Retail park which has M&S Food etc. Lots of gyms around. Stretford Mall and Chorlton and Sale within easy driving distance. Main bus route is metres away. Korean/Thai restaurant is reputed to be amazing and frequently packed.

My neighbours are all very welcoming and decent people. I’ve got medical staff, lots of teachers and professional neighbours and people who have really had my back since I moved here. It caused massive consternation when my cleaner popped in while I was on holiday. My neighbours were all on the case to find out why a window was open and phoning me & at the door to ensure someone was not breaking in. I had only moved in weeks ago and they cared.

There are various alley projects going on, which have featured on national TV. People work together to develop the community.

There are lots of close by parks - Longford Park, Gorse Hill Park, Nansen Park. There is close proximity to the M60.

Chorlton can be extremely rough. I have brought my young kids to McDonalds there and felt terrified at the rough clientele who walked in.

Granted, I don’t have a big garden and it’s more of a yarden. There is an anti social element in lots of cities. South Manchester has its share of problems. Match days it can get pretty busy for an hour or two.

In terms of bang for your buck, it’s affordable and a very good deal. There’s a reason why building companies are in constantly doing up houses here. And prices are rising fast.

I've just bought Gorse Hill, prices are soaring near 2 metro stations and there is development in Stretford. Levenshulme is a bit too packed for me and there are some dodgy roads. You have to know where to live, Gorse hill is quiet and no need to go there unless you live there or are there for football—some nice terrace houses with huge ceilings and plenty of space. Your 35-minute walk to Chorlton, 5 min drive. 17min to tram to get anywhere, new Arndale and canal developments .

Stretford, inc Gorse Hill, has a great community vibe. The transport links are great. There’s not a lot going on right now in terms of bars, like Chorlton or Altrincham or Sale, but the community feel is really there. lots of volunteer groups, and other social clubs. There was ‘Stretfest’ at the weekend and loads of young families were out just having a nice time. Lots of ‘improvement projects’ happening.

Yes the community feel is really there. At Halloween people have been really welcoming and made a big effort for instance. The prices for houses are much lower than Sale, Altrincham and Chorlton.

Levenshulme has great places to go but the traffic is pretty grim at times.

Gorse Hill is pretty near the motorway and traffic doesn’t seem too bad.

I can be at Manchester airport from Gorse Hill in twenty minutes or in Deansgate (centre) in about ten minutes.

The houses in Gorse Hill look normal size terraces from the outside but inside they are really roomy.

There is a dual carriageway right beside us and motorways close by and it is also handy to the Trafford centre.
