Have you downsized ?

just wondering what others opinions are as I’m not sure I even know my own mind anymore.

currently live in a spacious 5 bedroom detached house ! New build and I was so happy when we moved in and have the house looking beautiful. But !!!! Once the estate was finished I feel like I’m in a goldfish bowl I’m overlooked to front side and back. They also built a few social housing houses and just had to stick the worst possible people in them. They shout swear litter, children are vile so much so I don’t allow my children to play in the street. They also just allow their dogs to do the toilet in your garden and pee all over your car. So for that reason I want out asap !

have found a house in a far nicer part which would allow kids to stay at school however it’s only 3 bedrooms so my girls would need to share. The girls don’t mind but I just don’t know what to do. This house is private peaceful, the little street is immaculate and all garden maintained well.

so given the option would you stay in the big house or move to the smaller one ?

And if anyone has done it did you regret your decision.

Thanks
🙂

If your girls don’t mind sharing a bedroom then I can’t see why you wouldn’t. What’s the point in having extra space when you hate where you live?

You quickly learn to live with the space you have. I downsized from a huge five bedroom converted church to a two bedroom terraced house a few years ago and now I can’t even remember how I ever managed to fill the larger house and how it didn’t feel empty. I can only assume I must have owned a lot of unnecessary stuff that I didn’t realise was unnecessary!

We downsized a few years ago from a 3500 sq ft house to a 1600 sq ft house (both detached but in different parts of the country).

We deeply regretted the move and quickly sold up, buying somewhere larger again.

But in your case @Nicaced10 it sounds like a no brainer.

That’s true I don’t know why I’m overthinking when girls don’t mind and my little boy would have his own room. It’s just the worry isn’t it !
Good to hear you’ve done it though and have no regrets 😊

Thank you and good luck with your move. It’s so frustrating when other people have to ruin things for others.

We have downsized, but our DCs are grown up so our experience is not really relevant. However, we have moved several times and always, without exception, location has been the principal decider. In your case I’d move to the better location. In time you might be able to extend into the loft or garden.
