How do I sell my house to a charity for a slight reduction?

I am not on the market yet but I am wondering more and more about whether this is a possibility. Our house is simply stated, unaffordable to most London/S.E buyers and huge in a desirable area etc. I would like to sell it to a DV or refugee charity as it would be great to split it into several units for ten or fifteen people (I don't know how it works but i think they need facilities on each floor). I would be happy to knock off a few £100k to help towards converting it.

I am finding it impossible to source information about how to make this happen. I know that some charities are left houses by people in their wills but if you are not at that stage of life and just want to give back to people of your choice rather than selling to a hedge fund manager or wealthy foreign investor who will probably never live there, then where do I start?

There's a move away from communal hostel type refuges to scatter flats.

A charity will want the cash, not a property.

You could set up your own charity and run it but will still have hmo licenses etc to navigate.

If you are downsizing where is all this art stuff going to go?

Maybe rent while the house is professionally cleared and staged.

It's a very kind thought but I would imagine it'd be fraught with issues.

Depending on how close your neighbours are (and how nice they are!), there may well be objections to opening a centre for refugees or a refuge for DV victims. If it's a very big property, the charity also has to factor in running costs, conversion to single rooms not to mention staffing and running a brand new project.

Honestly...I would personally sell up, find a small charity you're passionate about and donate a really lovely sum from the proceeds of your sale. You can specify (if you want) how you'd like it to be used and if for example a DV charity is close to your heart, your money could be used to expand the services of a refuge which is already in operation.

A very kind offer though!

It is more suited to an embassy than a refuge and I agree that they would be likely to sell it on which I would not be too happy about. I certainly do not want to end up as some kind of charity manager or accidental landlord.
I will have to rethink all my options.

Struggling with this, it’s so odd. Just sell it. Stop all the hand wringing.
