Mould on the property I am interested in

Morning, I am after some advice please.

I viewed a property yesterday which was built in 2017. It’s a two bed and whilst the property looks okay from outside, I noticed mould on the main bedroom window and the bathroom window. The mould looks like it’s started recently, it’s not covered a lot of the window parts but it’s on both ends of the affected windows.

I was just wondering if it is wise to proceed with this and make an offer. I am just worried about it spreading further and becoming a burden.

What are your experiences with this?
Many thanks

It's almost certainly just due to condensation. More ventilation needed and check that there's an extractor in the bathroom, if it's working and if it's powerful enough.

Wouldn't put me off at all.

It could be something just as simple as the heating has been turned down or off this winter due to high energy costs. I made the mistake of not heating our conservatory this year to save on bills. It has just taken me a whole day to clean the mould off the glass - in previous winters when it was heated there was no mould at all in spring. Just hundreds of itsy bitzy fly turds to remove :)

Bathrooms are especially prone to mould if not ventilated or heated properly obviously. Bedrooms too especially if it's a smaller one with two grown adults chuffing out breath moisture all night and then not ventilating in the day because it looses heat for the house...

If you offer on the property make it clear your offer is subject to surveyors reports (standard procedure anyway) and make sure you pay for a proper survey and not just rely on the lenders valuation survey. Just for peace of mind.

Has this property been lived in by a family or rented out ?

Wouldn’t worry me tbh, condensation will probably be the cause particularly in the bathroom, lack of ventilation and bedroom. Mould spray, you can buy cheaply would eliminate it. Mention it to the surveyor for their opinion. Good luck with your move.

What others said, on windows sounds like lack of opening windows, not difficulty in keeping space ventilated.

If it’s black mould around the window it’s most likely just condensation related. Not an issue at all. Most modern houses don’t have enough ventilation in them and people tend to keep windows shut and heating on which doesn’t help.

Hello,
The property has been lived in by the current and only owners since they bought it in 2017.

Thanks
