Always said I couldn't be bothered with a doer upper...but our circumstances have changed and its unlikely we'll get a mortgage for what we'd want. With selling my current home plus savings we could buy this without a mortgage.

Looking at its surrounds, no absolutely not. It's a single house sandwiched between the M1 and a pretty industrial looking farm.

CornedBeef451 · 20/04/2023 09:05

I love the house, I even like the blue bath!

I would worry about traffic noise though, you'd have to visit at different times if the day to see how bad it is.

We've just moved from near a busy road to a very quiet area and I can't believe how much difference it makes. I wouldn't voluntarily go back to constant traffic noise.

Yesterday the loudest thing in the garden was the bees, so much nicer than lorries hurtling past at 40mph.

Chersfrozenface · 20/04/2023 09:31

Chicken farm?

If you can, visit when the wind is blowing from the chicken farm (if that's what it is) towards the house and take a few good sniffs.

LibertyLily · 20/04/2023 09:39

I wouldn't call that a doer upper either and we've bought way worse previously, so the work required to update etc wouldn't deter me.....

The proximity to motorway and chicken farm might, so those definitely need further investigation.

turtlemurtle1982 · 20/04/2023 09:47

It looks like a great house with lots of potential. If you're already in the area and want to live rurally then go for it.

PiranhaTank · 20/04/2023 09:52

Another fan of the blue bathroom. It's a gorgeous colour. I like the rest of the house too. It will be easy to update that.

Throwncrumbs · 20/04/2023 09:57

Only thing that would put me off is oil heating, otherwise it’s beautiful

iamnottoofatiamjusttooshort · 20/04/2023 09:58

Love it ! Love the fireplace

ShandaLear · 20/04/2023 10:02

£200k? In a heartbeat. That wouldn’t get you a two bedroom terrace on a main road where I live. It’s a lovely light airy house that just needs a bit of updating (survey permitting!).

CatOnTheChair · 20/04/2023 10:40

If you spend all the savings to buy it, can you finance the work?
It looks good. The garden will be marmite to some. I'd get a decent survey. I'd want to deal with kitchen, bathroom, stained wood, the structure thing in the garden.
Nothing looks massively difficult or messy.

WickedSerious · 20/04/2023 12:55

The problems we've had with our current house have put me off doer uppers but twenty years ago I'd definitely have gone for it.

Easterbunnywashere · 20/04/2023 14:25

I would be concerned about location with proximity to major road. Make sure you go there when it is wet as road noise is always worse when the roads are wet.

It looks a good price but take care not to underestimate how much it will cost to do up at today's prices.

mathanxiety · 20/04/2023 14:37

I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

Lovely house, so much potential, and the lot is gorgeous.

DannyZukosSmile · 20/04/2023 14:41

That is actually really, really nice. But why is it so cheap? It's a 4 bed detached bungalow with a garage, and on a decent sized plot too! Is it in a really cheap part of the country? Where I live, that would probably be about. £400,000 to £420,000 pounds. I don't live in a super expensive area. Just sort of North Midlands.

NicLondon1 · 20/04/2023 15:06

What is OIL HEATING?

Daisiesandprimroses · 20/04/2023 15:09

NicLondon1 · 20/04/2023 15:06

What is OIL HEATING?

Heating in whuch uou use heating oil. From a large tank in the garden, no idea why anyone would have an issue with it. Everything works just the same.

emmathedilemma · 20/04/2023 15:52

subject to survey I would go for it (i'm gently weeping into my tea here as that would be at least £500k round here!). It's dated but the layout is fine, it looks liveable with a good clean and a coat of paint if you don't mind doing the work over time.

emmathedilemma · 20/04/2023 15:55

NicLondon1 · 20/04/2023 15:06

What is OIL HEATING?

heating powered by oil. Quite normal in rural areas that don't have mains gas.

Florissante · 20/04/2023 16:36

That's a lovely house, OP.

CorsicaDreaming · 20/04/2023 22:00

The rooms above the garage are probably very cold - and I think it could be tricky / expensive to remedy that.

Seeingadistance · 20/04/2023 22:39

As others have already said - it's not a doer-upper at all!

SirVixofVixHall · 20/04/2023 22:50

I love it !looks great OP.

mastertomsmum · 20/04/2023 22:53

Looks pretty good, nice doors and windows. Bathroom unusual colour but could be lived with in the short term

Kittykatchunjy · 20/04/2023 22:56

Man I hate it, I'm clearly the only one though!

Sandals12 · 20/04/2023 23:08

I phoned about it today, viewings booked solidly for 3 days next week so they wouldn't book me a viewing! I was a bit peeved at this. Estate agent not wanting to have to spend time showing a lot if people around? Thinking they will get it sold with the viewers they have?! So seems popular. It's fairly cheaply priced but not massively for the area.

In terms of being near the motorway, I live a lot closer ATM and it's not that easily heard, only two lanes. I've lived close-ish to the m1 all my life and don't mind it, find it handy.

Most houses are oil heating, I've has nothing but oil heating.

Yes the bedrooms are quite small. Before covid this would've been priced around 130-140000, massive jump in prices thus last few years but cheap compared to other areas of UK.
