Question for AirBnB Owners

If you own an airBnB-type property to let to holiday makers, what's your attitude if the idiot tenants got an Indian Takeaway on their last night in your property and stained the vinyl allegedly-wipe-clean tablecloth with curry sauce?

We have paid a £150 damage deposit and I know that theoretically the replacement value would be probably only about £30 but I don't know if they would be reasonable to charge extra for the hassle of having to acquire a replacement at no notice tomorrow morning, assuming they decide to replace it.

I am treating it with bleach overnight and hoping the stains may have faded by the morning but I am not hopeful. The stains may be faded a little but are likely to still be detectable. The house is spotlessly Homes&Gardens picture perfect so I doubt they will be happy to just have the next holidaymakers make do with a stained tablecloth.

I could try to source a replacement myself first thing in the morning but we are due to check out at 10am and the local homeware stores (which may or may not stock such things) don't open till 10. So if I try to find a replacement I will end up checking out late.

Any advice?

Can't you check out and then go to the shops? If you don't find one, message the owner and explain/grovel.

Have you read the broken plate thread? Plenty of views from accomdation owners on there

TLDR - don't replace yourself let the owners know and see what they say:

If you're not in the UK and somewhere sunny, I've found sunlight effective.

I had a holiday let until quite recently. I wouldn’t charge for something like that. These things happen. I’d just use it stained the following week if I didn’t have another ( I usually did have a few tablecloths) and then buy another one on the internet. That said we rented ours as a “family friendly beach house” so people weren’t expecting perfection.

Just tell the owners and offer to pay for it.

My brand new John Lewis tablecloth was ruined by guests the very first time I put it on. Also by curry.
