How much do I need to save for this bathroom?

Moved into a 3 bed semi last summer - it’s a great house and I’m really happy. However, the bathroom is stuck in the 1980s and I’m saving hard for a complete renovation. I’ve never done this before and I’m blissfully unaware of the costs involved!

Those of you in the know, please could you let me know how much roughly I would need to save (including estimated labour costs) for the following?

  • Stone tiles/very good dupe for stone to achieve a ‘spa’ style
  • Similar style flooring
  • New wall mounted toilet, new bath and sink
  • Heated towel rail
  • Hollowed out small part of wall to hold toiletries
  • ”posh” shower head over bath (this could be mounted on to the tap because our water pressure is already really good!
  • shower screen

It’s a small bathroom, but I want something tranquil and timeless. Pic to show the sort of thing I’m on about. Thank you so much in advance!

I would think a budget version for 7-10k have a look at simply bathrooms and then look at b&q and somewhere in-between will be about right

Oh and I would LOVE to add under floor heating, but no idea what on earth that would cost!

Sorry, but being mid bathroom renovation right now, the above 7k-10k is ball parkwhat we were quoted too. And what it's just cost a friend to do an awkward ensuite.

Heating engineer DH says medium-high end allow 8-10k. Underfloor heating on top. Wet (water pipes) costs more than electric.

10K - are your floorboards good?

EggyTweet · 17/04/2023 20:39

I was going to say something in the £8/12k ball park.

It really can go up exponentially though when you start looking at options, and don’t underestimate the ‘finishing touches’ such as mirrors, lighting, towels etc.

When I researched bathrooms, a lot of the advice I read was about spending more on ‘moving parts’ that get repetitive Use, such as taps or a shower screen, over a fixture that’s all much of a standard I.e the toilet itself.

Thanks so much everyone, £8-10k is what I was expecting to hear, so I’m glad it’s confirmed.

@beanquiche - floorboards are ok as far as I know, judging from the ones in the hallway. But can’t truly know until we take the flooring up.

Does anyone know how much roughly under floor heating would cost? It’s a small bathroom; probably 2m - 2.5m!

I did mine in a similar style two years ago and spent £7k. No underfloor heating but lovely walk in shower with cubby, freestanding bath, stone floor tiles, nice tiles around the shower and wood panelling.

I didn’t get underfloor heating but if your budget will stretch I’d recommend. The floor is freezing! Everything else feels luxurious.

My new (small) bathroom is just nearing completion. Tiles were expensive, new walk in shower wall mounted vanity etc £8.5k in the north west. No under floor heating. It's well worth it although more expensive than we originally thought.

@Findyourneutralspace Sounds amazing! If you fancy DMing me a pic of yours, I’d love to be inspired. 😊
