Is the roof on the right way?

Hi all,

This is a really stupid question but I have zero experience of building work and especially new roofs.

We've just had an extension built and this flat roof was put on. Looks fine from the ground but when we looked out of the upstairs window, you can see the blue manufacturer print clearly displayed on the outside.

The job involved two separate extensions being built - this blue print is only visible on one roof and not the other. Does it mean that the roofing rubber has been put on the wrong way? Would you be worried about seeing the blue print?

I'm not too worried about the blue print because it's not visible from the ground, I'm just wanted to check that it doesn't mean the roof is on the wrong way. However, DP is really annoyed and thinks the builders should paint over the blue print or something because it's very unsightly when viewed from above. I mean, technically he's right, but as no one is really going to see it, I can't see it's an issue.

What's the normal thing to do here? We have a snag list to go through with the builder next week so I just need to know whether to mention this or not!

Photos attached but apologies for the shitty quality - the print is much more clearly visible in real life!

I don’t have experience of this but a quick google search suggests that it can be installed either way up but as you say, the writing can be unsightly if in a visible location.

Do they not still need to seal and finish it? Flat roofs are usually tarred and shingled. Or maybe not anymore

@Greensleevevssnotnose - ah no, it's one of those EPDM rubber roofs so this is the finished surface. It's cured and they've sealed it up, attached the guttering etc so it's all supposed to be finished now....

@Blowitout - thank you! I had a feeling it was probably OK being installed either way. You can't see the writing from the ground but you can if you look from above. I just think it's a bit shit that it's visible, even if you can't usually see it from the ground. If we had a raised decking built in the garden we'd be able to see the roof because the garden area is raised.

I think my issue is that I just don't know if it's usually installed with the print showing as standard or whether they've been sloppy. And if they have been sloppy, there's probably not a lot they can do about it now, is there? 😕

If, as PP says it can be installed either way up - that may be so, but sloppy to do so!

It's visible from your upstairs window isn't it? Sloppy builders.
Add to the snag list. They will probably need to put another layer on top (the right way round).

To be honest it's not a snag even if irritating, in fact often it's good practice to make sure the relevant markings are visible to make sure that the materials comply with the relevant standards. Obviously with gutters and rafters etc you would never see it unless you were a surveyor.
Just get a black marker and scribble on it and it will be gone.
