Our bathroom has a large fixed head shower head that needs replacing. Are these universal?
Can I buy any similar ish shower head and just screw it on?

I’ve wondered this as I’m looking to replace ours as no amount of cleaning makes it look as new. It could be worth unscrewing it and taking it into a plumbing supplier and asking or comparing measurements- this is what I intend to do anyway.

If it's just discolored and covered in scale then soak it in vinegar for a couple of days. If the rubber nipples have eroded, then a new one will be needed, so take the old one with you to a plumbing place or b&q or similar.

It's limescale and black mould.

It's limescale and black mould.

That can be cleaned up for sure. Seems a waste to chuck it away 🤷🏽‍♀️

Ok I will give cleaning it a go. Much prefer that to spending money or waste.

They mostly use the same size thread, but I've found that sometimes the length of the threaded part varies and this can cause leaks. Rarely, a different thread is used - I ran into this issue when trying to replace the hose on a Mira electric shower.
