Removing side windows

I have - 60’s/70’s house that has 2 side windows in the living room. I hate them.

They don’t open and are patterned. House isn’t listed but all then houses round here have the same windows.

We've asked the council planning about removing them. They were no use.
does anyone know where I can go next for advice? Or shall I just brick them up and hope for the best?

Whilst there may be planning controls on putting windows in, I doubt if anyone is going to complain if you take them out - so I'd just do it.

Be sure that you are happy with the lower light levels in your rooms first.

Check whether you can get similar bricks to your existing outside wall, perhaps consider reclaimed bricks as they will be weathered. But even then the pointing will stand out as new.

Or look at making the infill into a feature. A couple of hundred years ago there was a window tax and many houses either had the windows filled in, or built with features so that the bricks could be taken out later if the tax went away. You can see this as indented brickwork, maybe even a stone sill and surround that looks like it should have a window, but doesn't. Look at images on this Google search to see what I mean:

If you are not in a conservation area then it's be permitted development. I think you should get building control sign off on the new wall though.

Brill, thanks for both pieces of advice.

There are blinds on the windows and a house next to us, so no loss of light. I’ve seen those houses, bricks will be matched and sills removed.

Will look into building control 👍

Just brick them up. Is there a soldier course above the window? Ideally not as that accentuates the bricked in window.
Don’t forget on the inside you need to patch the plaster and it may well make sense to have the affected walls skimmed so you can just paint them.
