House move nerves

We are moving house in a couple weeks I'm getting nervous! We are in a 3 bed semi and moving to another 3 bed semi. (Family of 4 with 2 little kids) The actual house size isn't much different, our bedroom will actually be a bit smaller but we will be gaining a large drive, a garage and a big garden, about 3 times the size of our current garden. The area is also better as we are on a busy main road at the moment and the new house is on a quiet road very close to the schools. We aren't taking up that much on our mortgage but the new house we're buying has potential to extend and make it how we want it. Whereas the house we're in cannot be extended at all. What do you all think? Are we mad moving to a house not much bigger than our current one or do you agree it's worth it!?

Getting off the main road sounds so good!

And a smaller bedroom - well it's where you sleep

We're moving to a house that isn't bigger in order to get a bigger garden and potential to extend. If you're mad, we are too!

It's definitely a good move. My daughters absolutely love their bigger garden they are out there all the time, lots of bbqs friends around it's great. You won't be on a main road so your children will be able to play more safely when old enough and you're still near the school so they will have local friends.

I wish you all the best, we did it last year, absolutely stressful, scary, exciting all rolled into one. But we are settled now and it's the best move we could have done for our girls.

Sounds good to me. You will SO appreciate close to school, and more garden space.

I hope you're farming out the kids on removal day.

we’ve moved for a house that was not particularly bigger, but was in a quieter spot with better schools. I feel like it’s been a good move, although it took a bit of getting used to.

Aw thank you everyone for your encouragement :). We've been trying to move for ages. Our current garden is so small and we have 2 young boys so the thought of giving them a good size garden to burn their energy off feels so exciting!! The 3rd bedroom is so tiny for my youngest but im hoping he'll see it as cosy (he's only 2 so probably won't even notice haha) but yeah I think I'm just over thinking and stupidly looking at the negatives instead of the positives now it's getting so close!!

My house was a little bigger with a much nicer garden in a quieter location. He’s thing I ever did.

I did extend downstairs within a year - which I could never have done in my old house due to the tiny garden.

I assume you didn’t feel hideously cramped, it was the busy road and small garden that was the problem?

I think sometimes we overthink things, I know I do. We moved in Jan and I started to worry that we had made the wrong decision. We moved from a 3 bed link detached to a 4 bed mid terraced townhouse. We have less parking space and a much smaller garden at the new house but we’ve gained so much more as the footprint of the house gives us much bigger bedrooms and extra bathrooms. With 2 teens we needed an extra bathroom and more bedroom space.

I haven’t missed our old garden one bit. Was great when the kids were younger but they didn’t use it anymore. They are so much happier where we are now. It’s a nicer area and it’s closer to work, school and their friends.

we are glad we made the move but I can remember many sleepless nights leading up to the move wondering if we were doing the right thing!!

good luck with your move sounds like the perfect move for you
