Kitchen flooring - opinions

So trying to get other thoughts on the flooring that we have in mind.

The kitchen is the exact colour scheme as above. Matte dark navy cabinets with a rose gold trim. Appliances are as below a mixture of black and chrome.

The quartz has already been chosen and is the one on the pictures as well.

Now my dilemma is the floor. I absolutely love the floor in the picture and think the colour combination is great. However there’s this small niggling feeling in me where I feel it might be a bit much and I should choose more plain one.

Also while I’m on the subject. What’s everyone’s thoughts on the rose gold trim? I find the silver a bit boring which is why we chose the rose gold, but worried about matching.
Would you have all black appliances or would mixed black and chrome be ok? As mentioned we currently have it set up as mixed, but could change it to all black including the tap.

Love the floor tiles - very forgiving in terms of hiding dirt - but don't think the quartz works with it, different colour and mismatched 'pattern'. Would a wood work top be better?

NellyBarney · 11/04/2023 22:11

I think that's a lovely floor.
Is it stone or vinyl? You can get rose gold coloured taps if you like a coherent colour scheme. I wouldn't worry about a bit of chrome showing on an oven etc. I personally wouldn't choose black taps, I'd prefer a little contrasting accent to the dark navy.

NellyBarney · 11/04/2023 22:21

Maybe you could try and bring the floor and worktop a bit closer to create more harmony? There are pinkish'grey quartz tops available that are very similar to the floor. Or just go for a plain worktop with no/very subtle marbling, either in white or grey, so that there is less going on.

We've just completely renovated a derelict property, including new kitchen. Its so hard to choose and imagine the overall look.

Can you bring home a few floor tiles and try them on the floor in various lights? What looked beige in the shop looked grey in sunlight and under our own lights.

If the worktop is already chosen, then I'd personally go for a plainer flooring. To me the different designs clash and make it look far too busy. The floor can still have a pattern, but much more subtle IMO.

Do you have a water softener? If not, you will have water stains on the taps and black will show them up even more so. I'd be worried that the colour would chip/show wear sooner than a chrome tap.

Do you have anything else in the room with rose gold? Light fittings, light switches, door handles etc? It goes well with the navy, but I'm unsure how it would fit if other fittings in the room are different colours.

Love all your choices but do feel that the worktop and the floor tiles are quite different pattern wise. Personally I’d go for a slightly plainer tile if you’ve chosen the quartz already or if you love the floor tiles then maybe a slightly plainer worktop.
it’s hard to visualize what it will all look like together isn’t it- good luck with your new kitchen

@Eyesopenwideawake Thank you for the reply. Thanks for confirming what I was worried about (that it will most likely clash).
I do want to avoid wood on the countertop. Have it in my current kitchen and it looks horrible. Question is should I keep the current quartz and do a plainer floor or the other way around. Designing kitchens is so hard. It’s such a big decision and I really want to be happy with the end result, but it’s difficult when you can’t picture it in advance.

Yes, I’m loving the floor too, it’s LVT. It’s so different from anything else I’ve seen and will be forgiving against dirt as another poster mentioned (which I definitely need with kids and pets in a high traffic area).

The taps we are going for is a quooker tap and only comes on black, chrome and gold. But I think I will stick to chrome as we live in a hard water area and black will be covered in limescale in no time.

I guess the option could be to go with a plainer worktop. There is one that we like that was white with some
subtle speckles on it that would definitely work.

@RM2013 Thanks for your input. We are still open to changing things around. We have paid a deposit on the quartz but it is refundable and they’ve got lots of different, plainer styles available.

I guess the question is what I should keep as is. The floor or countertop.

I would keep the floor and the worktop. Both look good to me.

@CC4712
Thanks for your reply.
It’s so hard doing even a kitchen for me. Good for you for renovating a derelict property. I would be so scared.

I’ve actually just ordered some floor samples. Like you said it might look so different in different light. It’s still so hard to judge as it’s for an extension that’s not been built yet, so I can’t even picture the room let alone the rest of the little details.

I am generally open to changing anything. Believe it or not I normally like to play it safe. So this design (with the rose gold and the patterned floor) is really out there for me. Which is why I’m scared to make the decision.

We will probably avoid black taps and just stick to chrome. We live in a hard water area and it will look terrible very quickly.

With regards to the rose gold, I was thinking of having a few minor details to match (like the bar stools in the pic) but also don’t want to overwhelm it.

@clarrylove That’s interesting to hear. You're the first person that’s said that. You don’t feel like there’s too many patterns and might clash? I’d love it if it didn’t as I really like both of them separately, but such a big decision to make.

I love the navy and mid grey floor but not keen on quartz as too busy for my taste. I'd pick a mid grey plane one to compliment the floor tiles. Also if you are going with the gold trim I'd avoid chrome taps. You can get them in the gold., Kettle trim too. I'd try to stick to one cohesive colour either the gold or chrome not a mix of both.

Here’s a bigger picture of the quartz to get an idea. So difficult to see the pattern on a small sample.

It's lovely, but it will clash with the floor. If you have a "busy" worktop you need a plain floor and vice versa. Otherwise your eyes will be confused!!

NellyBarney · 12/04/2023 14:02

On a photo basis, I think that will work well with the floor. You have, at least according to the photo, a very similar toned grey and white in both floor and quartz, and the marbling is less dominant than I assumed on the basis of your first photo. Could you go to the quartz shop with a tile of your flooring and a sample door of your kitchen and see how it all looks in situ? It's usually pretty lovely to combine different patterns and materials as long as they come from a limited harmonious colour palette. You are quite restricted in colour (white, grey, black, navy, chrome and rose), so a bit of patterns should stop it from looking 'boring' without being overwhelming.

orangeflags · 12/04/2023 15:14

Which quartz is it? Calcatta gold?
