No gas safety certificate

I live in a rented property and last week we had a new combi boiler fitted. The plumbers had to install new gas pipes and got the boiler elsewhere, as the existing boiler is old and apparently the gas pipes were in the actual wall.

Anyway, the only information I have is one of the plumbers first names and number. Nothing on their van etc, and they haven’t given me any sort of certification. They came, did the work, left.

I then asked if I could get a gas safety certificate and they said that it doesn’t need one for the first year but they will do it. Haven’t had it yet, but it’s bank holiday anyway.

Does this sound right? I’m feeling slightly concerned.

Not quite the same circumstances but I'm a LL and mine goes straight to my lettings agents and they send me an electronic copy. I doubt the tenants ever see it but confirmed in their rental paperwork I presume.
Letting agents I use are really on the ball re certifications needed and reminding/arranging etc

@wwyd2021medicine Thanks for the reply. I was at the last property for 7 years and each time they’d give me the certificate, but I will email the letting agents and confirm just to be safe.

@Digimoor Thanks. It says there are no results for my address, however it was only installed last Tues and Weds, I assume it may take time to update? Or should it be there now?

You most certainly should have had a certificate done, but usually this will be given to the estate agents.

The fact they have said you don't need one is very strange/worrying.

I would contact the estate agents or whomever ordered the work and request a copy, as you are legally entitled to a copy.

If you don't get one, you can report them to the LABC.

When our engineers install a new boiler they hand in all their paperwork to the office at the end of the week, then their manager goes online and registers the installation. (You have 30 days to do this) The building regs certificate then comes through in the post 10-14 days later.

If you have a carbon monoxide alarm fairly close to the boiler and it works (it should have a test button) then you don't have to panic.

It makes sense to me that the paperwork would go to an agent for a new install and the first certificate would be due after 12 months.

Don't expect any online systems to be updated anywhere near their normal timeframes at the moment. If they say 30 days, look in 120.

@KievLoverTwo The new boiler is in the garage, there’s no alarm in there. There is one in the nearest room though, which is the kitchen. Saying that, the garage is below our bedroom.

I just want some more information and the safety certificate. I feel awkward asking for it again but I don’t feel I should have to, I never have before. The fact that I don’t even know if they have a company name etc also.
