Bathroom inspiration

Anyone able to offer any guidance for bathroom inspiration? We've never done anything like this before and feeling a bit lost as to where to start! We've been to a local showroom who were great, regular rectangular room they say and plenty of space, but now we actually have to choose fixtures tiles etc and stuck. Want something practical that ideally won't date too much. We're in a hard water area so limescale is an issue over time. Anyone used dark grout and found this an issue? Thanks so much!

We renovated our bathroom last year,I couldn't decide what look I wanted (DP didn't care)so I started looking for flooring, found something I loved and went from there.
The only place we've used dark grout is the kitchen floor, for practical reasons.

Steer clear of anything other than chrome taps, shower, etc or using products to get rid of limescale could damage the finish.

No dark grout! Use large format tiles. White loo etc. Duravit are excellent. Grohe or Gansgrohe Taps etc. Yes to chrome. Make sure you have storage. Big tall cupboard and under sink. Towel rad snd decide if you want underfloor heating.

Check your water pressure before buying taps-some European taps are designed for high water pressure and don’t cope if yours is low. We had everything off the floor, so wall hung loo and vanity. Makes everything so easy to clean. No skirting boards. We have shaver sockets in our cupboard which has a light and a demister pad on the mirror. We got large stone effect porcelain tiles in a pale grey/buff and half tiled the room. Flooring we went for Harvey Maria LVT and everyone comments on it. As it was a small space, we had built in bath with shower over. We love our new bathroom.

Don’t use dark grout. Firstly it costs more to have done and secondly it shows up any discrepancies in the tile. Thirdly it does show limescale.

my inspo comes from Insta.

You could consider a water softener if your water is hard. We got one prior to refitting our en suite for lots of reasons, but in large part because we wanted to keep it looking nice for as long as possible. It's great, I wish we'd got one years ago!

I spent a lot of time on Pinterest saving examples of bathrooms that I liked but also found it helpful to look round a few tile showrooms and ordered LOTS of samples then whittled it down.

I'd also recommend using an online bathroom planner to play around with the location of toilet, bath, basin etc. Having bath/basin/toilet all in a row is classic but a bit boring IMO, play around with it and see how it looks. Also think about the flow of the room - it's nice to be able to reach for a warm towel when you get out of the bath or shower, so make sure the towel rail is in a convenient place. We ended up with a completely different layout to what we'd planned after using a planner.

Ours is all finished apart from painting the ceiling and I absolutely love it.

I’d second wall hung. Definitely easier to clean.
