Can I afford York?

My budget is £300k. I was just wondering if anyone from York could tell me if we can get a 3 bed semi in a nice area on the outskirts of York (suburbs / village)

And if so, where?

Just want to move back ASAP but £300k is my budget but I know York is pricey.

I'm an introvert and I've convinced myself that all the houses on Rightmove are in busy areas 😂

Thank you x

If I can't afford York - can anyone recommend a lovely large town with good links to York that's affordable?

We're very open to suggestions!

A quick glance on rightmove shows 75 3 bed houses in york for 300k or less OP, what in particular are you wanting? Do you live nearby already?

I’d particularly recommend looking around the YO31 area.

A lot of people who can’t afford York also look at Tadcaster and Selby, and villages around there as you can get a lot for very little. Tadcaster is about a 15 minute drive, Selby is a little further.

Hi, no I live in the South East but I'm from the North East. I want to go home. I've been here for many years. Visited York recently and can't get over the fuzzy warm feeling I had. Also, everyone was SO nice!

Jobs are amazing there for me (Heritage) and DC loved it.

I'm just worried about going back and choosing the wrong area as I've been out the loop for 15 years!

Absolutely you can.

Look at the villages outside the Ring Road if you don’t want to be in the centre. Just be careful as the commute into the centre can be slow.

Also look in the Malton area. You should definitely find something in budget and there is a good train service to central York.

Look at The National Trust (lots of properties in North Yorkshire) and Castle Howard for Heritage roles. If you identified a role in might help decide which side of York you want to live.

York is a really fabulous place to live. I moved up from the SE, would never return !!

I would also warn you that although there’s loads of museums and heritage sites, it’s a very competitive area for those jobs because there’s two good unis turning out history and archaeology graduates! And people tend to stay in York as they love it so much. So do consider a wider search for jobs 😊

I wasn’t sure anyone would get my name! @Yorkyyorkyork

Selby, Sherburn In Elmet, Malton all equidistant to York to get more for
your money but your budget would work for a 3 bed

@BackOfTheMum5net That's good to know. I work in heritage architecture.

@Soulstirring amazing thank you x
