Muswell Hill for secondary schools

Looking for advice about moving to Muswell Hill / Ally Pally area. First child so we are clueless over secondary application procedures. I know they don't have "catchments" as such, but where can I find out where children travel in from? I'd ideally like to move somewhere where our DC would then be eligible to apply / have a good chance of getting in to APS and Fortismere - but I don't know if that's even possible.

It has to be mixed non-denominational state school and not Catholic so choice is limited in the area.

I know the area well as lived there before I was married.

We've got a couple of years as DC is still young but would need to move by Year 5.

Thank you

These tables should show you the distance of offers to Haringey secondary schools, I’d draw a circle around each school and see what it shows.

I’m not sure if there are currently many roads that you can get into APS and Fortismere, but I’ve not needed such information for a long time so not up to date.

The schools are quite different, so you may find you have a preference to one over the other. I’m sure others will be along with more current advice.

Might help if you put a thread in secondary eduction section of MN rather than here in property, once you know more about schools you can then focus where to move to.

The tables added up thread will show you that distances for successful entry from the schools are very short - walking distance in Muswell Hill.

My DC went to Muswell Hill Primary and you had to live exceptionally close to get in there. We lived half way down Muswell Road and my DD got into Alexandra Park but was on the waiting list for Fortismere - her preference due to where her friends were going. She got in. Her friends at Fortismere all lived in walking distance - some on the East Finchley side, some in roads off Tetherdown and Queens Avenue. So Fortismere draws on central Muswell Hill. Alexandra Park would obviously be more centred around Durnsford Road, Ally Pally and Bounds Green direction.

I think you’ll have to pick one, OP. The catchments aren’t big and they’re not that close to each other. Both are good schools so perhaps choose which part you would prefer to live in?

I live pretty close to Fortismere, in Fortis Green, and it’s my personal preference as I can walk to East Finchley tube. (Well, my real preference would to be next to Highgate tube, but that doesn’t get you into either school!)
