Bathrooms costs.... HOW MUCH?!

Freshair1 · 03/04/2023 20:51

Planning a bathroom refurb. Totted up costs of suite etc from an independent, recommended company and its coming to just over 5k for toilet, units for toilet and sink, integrated sink and work tip, plinth extras etc etc plus taps and handles. Is this obscene? It doesn't include bath or shower

B&q under a dpgrand, just work your budget. Surely

Nik2015 · 03/04/2023 20:54

I got my bathroom, walk in shower, tiles, flooring etc done for 5k.
But I had some ridiculous quotes.
B&Q was 1.5k for the suite, but 8k for fitting!!!

Nik2015 · 03/04/2023 20:54

Should have said it was finished last week.

ShowOfHands · 03/04/2023 20:54

We bought a suite in bits and pieces, including ex showroom and some vintage stuff from eBay. Shopped around for everything. Stripped back to brickwork and did everything ourselves. Cost under 2k all in.

strawberrysunrise · 03/04/2023 21:06

You can buy whole bathroom suites from Victorian Plumbing for under £1000, loo, sink, taps, radiator. Fitting is the pricey bit.

Freshair1 · 03/04/2023 21:08

I'm wary of quality of online retailers, never had to refurb a bathroom so its something new!

Yes that's obscene for a toilet and a sink!

morbidcuriosity · 03/04/2023 21:23

I used Victoria plumbing, and got the package deal, sink toilet taps waste etc.. was very reasonable price. and its nice.

Dorisbonson · 03/04/2023 21:28

Depends on size of bathroom but 10 days work at £250 a day covers multi trades fitting but there are variables like tiling etc. If you shop around you can get basic bathroom suite for £1k and better quality for £2k upwards. Taps are surprisingly expensive. Never ever ever get one fitted by Wickes, b&q etc - it's always way more expensive. Same principle with kitchens.

mrstea301 · 03/04/2023 22:06

We paid £5k about 7 years ago, but we basically took it all back to the students and fully redid it, removed the back and installed a shower cubicle instead!

fiorentina · 03/04/2023 22:13

Including fitting, we’ve recently paid around £12k for a bathroom. Separate shower cubicle and bath etc. And we shopped around, didn’t buy anything anywhere fancy. Topps Tiles for floor and wall tiles, Victorian plumbing for most fittings. We did add underfloor heating and went for period taps etc to suit our house as we may sell fairly soon but most of the cost was fitting.

Geneticsbunny · 04/04/2023 08:57

Online is much cheaper. I have found Google image search for the specific images I like has helped me find the cheapest supplier for parts. Things like sink and toilet, you can get very good quality twyfords ones from any cheap plumbers merchant like plumbworld

Thelittlekingdom · 04/04/2023 08:59

We’ve had some quotes for our en-suite. It’s basically to fit new what is already there and one came in at 10k and another 7k. It’s quite a small space with only a shower, toilet and sink and only part tiled. Madness.

good96 · 04/04/2023 09:02

Cheaper online. Just shop around and also don’t necessarily go for the cheapest bathroom fitter.
I paid £9.5k for my new bathroom back in 2018 - that included fitting. Tiles can be expensive.
worth looking at places like Screwfix for taps and showers.

TiredandLate · 04/04/2023 09:36

I can recommend Bathroom Mountain online. Was quoted £2000 just for the walk in shower at Wickes, I've bought the full suite including freestanding bath, freestanding tap, 1900mm shower tray with 1200mm screen for under £2k.

Findyourneutralspace · 04/04/2023 09:41

I did mine from Victoria Plum for £7k including fitting two years ago. That included freestanding bath, walk in shower, sink, WC, heated towel rail, electric mirror, wall and floor tiles, wood panelling and decorating.

I’m really pleased with it.

CoffeeWithCheese · 04/04/2023 09:45

We looked a few years ago with a budget of around £5k. B+Q and the DIY sheds insisted we'd be looking at a bucket pretty much with that budget... we got it all fitted and supplied by a local provider on-cost but did have to do a bit of shopping around and they spent time letting us tweak options up and down to suit.

I've done up four bathrooms now, and always use Plumbword, Victorian Plumbing and Bathroom Mountain for bits - they are all very reliable.

Mycatisaqueen · 04/04/2023 12:34

Created an en-suite shower room last year for around £5k. We live in the south west. I would recommend Plumbworld for quality, cost, choices and customer service.

However B&Q were offering 20% off, so we got the WC, towel rail and sink from there.

bussteward · 04/04/2023 12:37

I mean, buy stuff that fits your budget surely? You can get a pedestal basin for £79 or £500 or anywhere in-between. Labour is what costs.

Mindymomo · 04/04/2023 12:45

It really depends on what you want, if you want standard but quality products, go for Ideal Standard or Roper Rhodes. If you want a power shower, these cost around £1,000 plus pump and electrics. Tiles can be cheap from B&Q or really expensive. Before my DH retired in 2020 he would charge on average £3,500 to take out existing bathroom, tiles, radiator and fit new. A skip or removal of old suite and debris can be £500. Everything has increased in price 30/40%.

Caspianberg · 04/04/2023 12:50

That’s expensive if that’s only the parts. The tiling, labour and fitting are usually the most expensive part

rollerblind · 04/04/2023 12:53

We recently paid £12k for an ensure shower room and our bathroom- all in and decent a quality suite. It was an "entry level" price of a decent brand (vitra, and grohe taps and shower etc)

bigbluebus · 04/04/2023 13:18

We had an ensuite refitted last Summer. Good quality shower cubicle - more expensive due to unusual shape - plus Roca toilet, sink and units. Fully wall tiled, new plaster board to 2 walls, radiator moved and replaced with heated towel rail (plumbed in), new extractor fan, new lvt flooring. All in £7300.
Obviously could have got cheaper fittings but wanted reasonable quality.

bigbluebus · 04/04/2023 13:19

By 'all in' I mean fitting/plumber included.
