What would you do with this kitchen layout?

Soon to exchange and we have plans to knock through the kitchen dining room to create a more open plan kitchen. We love the roomier, light kitchens with an island and a heart of the home vibe but the L shape is throwing us and it's our first time choosing our own kitchen. Help! What would you do with this space?

Ha this is a similar layout to our kitchen - I have an aga with a unit either side of it at the end (where you have two doors), then a massive island in the middle which has sink and dishwasher in it and we have tall fridge to the side and large units at the end (opposite end to Aga), then have big kitchen table where yours is pictured.

I hate it!!!!!!!!! When we have guests and I’m at the Aga I can’t see them if sat at the table, I have no seating at the island - if I were to have my way I would move kitchen to where dining bit is and have peninsula island (think that’s what it’s called!) looking out onto the dining area.

What are you prepared to do?

Is it possible to move any doors - as you have a lot of them.
Could you swap the door and window on the left hand wall over? No idea if will help given the whole plan - but worth knowing.
Where does the bottom right door go (cannot see from the plan what room it goes into...is it the hall? Would you need a door from both dining and kitchen areas?
Is there a utility room - or is everything in the kitchen? Do you want one incorporated?
The hob near the external door at the moment looks like a nightmare....stirring your strifry....someone coming in from the garden...doors...urgh
Do you need to fit a table in?
But I think you need to think about "flow" and the most sensible access points first....as, as above, you have a lot of doors. Blocking some of these in will help.

What do you need from it?

Can you knock the kitchen and dining room into one?

here is one option. but with various caveats.

first, part of the wall between kitchen & dining room looks v fat on the plans which may indicate it will be much harder than normal to remove that wall. you'd have to check with a surveyor.

Here, I've assumed you can remove the wall, and then I've actually made the kitchen smaller to make the L-shape feel less narrow. So I put a utility (U) at the end of the room (same sink etc), assuming you don't have another utility elsewhere. the kitchen then has standard hob (H), sink (S) and fridge (F) as well as a large peninsula (P) where people can sit & chat between kitchen and dining room.

here is a different more radical option.

open up the wall part-way (leaving the thick bit in place) and close of the door from the new kitchen (old dining room) to the hall. this gives you a big area of wall for your main kitchen with hob (H), sink (S), fridge (F). Here you have a big peninsula (P) in front of the sliding doors, but there is not enough space for an island.

then the old kitchen becomes a generous dining room. you could also cut off an end to make a utility room as in my plan above, or keep it big with all the windows.

if you want a bigger kitchen, can you take some space from the back hall or whatever room is just to the right of the floorplan? it might be useful to post the plan of the whole ground floor.

@michelehu I can't work out which way your house is oriented, is the kitchen currently at the front of the house?
