Removing a built in plasterboard wardrobe

1980 Barrett home. Has boxy built in wardrobe in one corner right up to the ceiling. It's made of plasterboard I think rather than anything wooden.

I want it removed and have been hesitant about diy but it's proving tough to get someone out to do it. I need the room reskimmed anyway so it will get made good.

Can I just bash it with a hammer? My concern is the back wall is a supporting wall and whilst I'm not touching that one I may damage.

But I can't get someone out to even look at it let alone quote or do the job. It's stopping me getting the rest of the room fixed now and I can't book a plasterer.

If you’re getting a plasterer in anyway, does it matter if you damage the wall (& probably ceiling!) a bit? You aren’t going to damage it structurally by removing the wardrobe, and if you are reskimming it will be covered up won’t it?

I’m trying to imagine them building a wardrobe with plaster board though. Maybe if you post a picture someone could advise? Maybe drill through a little bit, somewhere unnoticeable, and see what it is actually made of.

Do it. Deconstruction is really satisfying. Once the plasterboard is off you will be able to see the frame which will make it easier to disassemble.

Ah we've decided to keep it now but tart up the inside and change the door. Now to find a plasterer which is almost impossible!
