Roof debacle

Had water coming through roof running down wall cavity and coming through ceiling following a recent storm. It's an old house that had been empty and neglected for last 10 years and we bought it last summer, so not a big surprise.

Struggled to find a roofer as all local ones very busy. Got one from a company 30 miles away. Young bloke, seemed professional, assessed, showed me what he thought was wrong, mended it. Showed us the work he'd done.

He then asked for payment BEFORE he sent the invoice. Really weird but he didn't want to send it. Eventually sent a very basic invoice to my husband and we paid.

Recently rain has revealed same problem, water coming through ceiling. I no longer trust the original guy and have managed to get a very reliable and recommended chap to come and assess next week though he won't be able to do any work to mend it for a few weeks.

What are my options with the first guy? He's taken £2000, done some work but not fixed the problem. I don't really trust him to be able to put the problem right. I want to put a negative review up really to warn others. So do I let him know?

Absolutely horrified at the money lost but I've learnt a lesson about only using trusted contractors

I wouldn't necessarily presume he's a cowboy if you've not approached him to give him chance to rectify or look at it again? I'm a building surveyor, it's not always the first thing you try that fixes something, sometimes you need to fix the most obvious, if that doesn't work move on to the next thing. Roofs and water ingress aren't as straightforward as you might think!
