Selling our house - realised our insurance hasn't renewed. Is this a problem?

We live abroad and now selling our UK property. We thought our landlord insurance (basically buildings insurance) was on an automatic renewal but it expired in 2021😮

Now we're filling in all the forms to sell the house, and it's asking "Does the Seller insure the house?".

What do we do? Do we take out insurance quick-smart? Do we tell our solicitor that it's lapsed and not worry about it? Or what? Does a gap in coverage matter (given it's in the past)?

The buyer will need to insure the building from Exchange until Completion, so I presume there's no legal requirement for you to HAVE to insure it until Exchange. Personally I would but I'm naturally cautious.

I would get it insured , what if there is a fire and you aren’t covered you will lose everything. The buyer will insure from exchange of contracts so it is only for a short time.

I wouldn’t worry about it. There’s no law that’s says you have to insure your house, unlike a car. Just say you don’t insure it. If it worries you then take out a new policy, but a gap in cover is entirely up to you and your view of risk.
