Who knows about changing a kitchen floor? (when units rest upon it)

I hate our kitchen floor, which also goes straight through into the hallway. It's 2.5cm thick engineered oak. All our kitchen cupboards stand on it and there's no possibility of moving them. Is there a way to fit a new floor? I'm thinking of LVT in a herringbone pattern. The trouble is, if we lay this on top, a) will the lines between the oak show through & b) the step down into other rooms will be even more noticable. (other rooms off the hall just have painted floorboards). I can't imagine that you could use a cutting tool against the kitchen cupboard bases without damaging them & then a raw edge would show anyway. If the cupboards have to be physically lifted that means taking the worktop off I presume? We have solid granite 2 runs of 4m, 1 of 3m and an island of 6sqm. A massive pita to move.

Any ideas?

It is possible to remove the kickboards and then use a multitool to cut through the existing boards to remove them.

Watching with interest. I have the exact same problem.

@Geneticsbunny Removing the kickboards won't make much difference because the island cupboard end walls rest on the floor as do the ends either side of the cooker/sink & 3 runs of cabinets.

Do all those bits have seperate end panels on them? Might be possible to take those off, chop the floor and reattach?

I've been wondering this. Our new kitchen was finished Dec 2022. The LVT is a real disappointment- deep scratches and dints appearing from totally normal daily use. I am wondering how we will do it when we need to replace it which will be a lot sooner than anything else.

Ours is Malmo brand. Be careful what new floor you go for is my point.

Not possible without removing the massive granite slabs. (which took 6 men each to move.)
