Kitchen layout

Ideas for my new kitchen layout please!

We are having an extension built on the end of our kitchen. The 'sun terrace' will become a garden room, and our kitchen table and chairs will go out there. This will leave an empty space at one end of our kitchen where the table and chairs currently is and I'd love idea for how neat to use this space.

Kitchen is fairly long and narrow. The part of the kitchen I'm referring to is the darker end of the room.

Options are an island, fitted units or a sofa.

Island
Pros - more storage in the island itself, could have the very far side as casual seating with stools where friends can sit and chat when I'm making coffee etc, a space to lay food out at Christmas (and other times when we entertain larger numbers which we do quite a bit) for people to walk around and fill their plates.
Cons - will it look weird having an island at the far end of the kitchen and do we even have enough width for a decent sized island?

Fitted cupboards
Pros - would probably give the most storage, would probably look the most 'correct'. We have a really high ceiling there, so could have a large fitted 'dresser' style unit which would provide loads of storage and be a really nice feature.
Cons - no space for casual seating in kitchen.

Sofa
Pros - could make a really nice cost end of the kitchen for casual seating.
Cons - no additional storage, which we could do with.

I agree, it's lovely!

I do think that putting full height cabinets in would run the run the risk of changing the character of the space, so would probably avoid that. And don't cover that lovely stone wall! Other than that I don't think you can go wrong really.

Having seen it now I'd just keep a table and chairs, maybe a slightly smaller one to make it feel more spacious. You can use it for sitting and doing admin in, for quick meals or friends can hang out there with a drink while you are cooking.

Putting in units will make it look much more cluttered, and you'll want to sit in the room with the lovely view if you are sitting on a sofa. Smells won't be an issue as I thought, as the kitchen seems to be open plan and has a nice high ceiling.

@Binfire that's the sort of thing I was thinking. Something free standing, almost like a price of furniture rather than a fitter part of the kitchen. The ones you've suggested are lovely.

I'd put a wall across and have a big pantry. It's a hard one as the room is so long. Don't think an island would work at all.

Yes, that’s what I was thinking it needs to be like a beautiful piece of furniture.

We have a freestanding island and we love it, my clever husband built it out of a reclaimed work bench and a large piece of quartz.

De Vol do the most beautiful prep tables if you have the budget, although there isn’t quite as much storage obviously.

Or - you could get a carpenter to install a built in bench against the back and right hand walls, running around the corner, with a padded seat and cushions against the wall to lean against. Then you could have storage underneath (not good for cans of food, but ok for big items) and shelves overtop. And maybe a low table in front for drinks.
