Has anyone sold a property without using an estate agent

just by putting an advert in the paper? Was it easy to negotiate the right price yourself, or do you wish you'd used an estate agent?

We're thinking of putting our flat on the market, but could really do with saving money to use as towards buying a new place, so any advice would be gratefully received!

Did you see The One Show tonight? They covered this, was quite interesting, you can download it on BBC iplayer

yes about 10 years ago, through a chance encounter with friends...went into estate agents to say we were thinking of putting it on the market and what sort of price range would it get...then decided we wanted to break even as huge falling market and asked her to name a price. Her price was within £500 of ours so we said if you up it its yours and she bought it.....yes we were very very lucky and saved ourselves loads., To be honest it wasn';t all that difficult...

There are websites, rather than just an ad in the paper. I think Propertybroker or something like that is the name of one. They also supply you with a For Sale board so people driving around the area having a look can also see your property is up for sale. I'd be tempted to have a go ... and I work in an estate agents!

Yes.
We sold our flat 11 years ago, paid £25 to put an ad in our local newspaper group and we had a buyer within 2 weeks.
Very straight foward, with no problems at all.

We bought our house through HouseLadder. We had an estate agent to sell ours, and tbh, we did the bulk of the legwork ourselves as the EA we chose was unfortunately rubbish... we would do it again (but we're not planning to move for a long time).
