Painting over a few days

I'm planning on painting a large room this week, my plan was to do one wall at a time, edge in, then paint. Probably over mon, wed and Thurs and then skirting Friday

Dh thinks I should edge in the whole room on day one then do the middles the other days but I thought you shouldn't edge in too far in front of the rest? Does it matter?

Don't you usually do skirting before walls? It's easier to wipe emulsion off gloss than the other way around? I'd also edge everything in first then do the middles of the walls, but I'm not a decorator

Sorry I probably should have said the skirting boards are being painted "off" and then put back on next weekend once everything is dry

I edge ( cut in) everything first. If you’re putting 2 coats on the walls the edges will blend in.

I've done it both ways, and actually my preference is to edge in the whole room one go, then you'll generally find you have time to do 2 walls or more in one go (as it seems pretty quick if you've already edged in. Depends how many coats you're doing as well, but minimises disruption.

It depends on the colour! If you are using something bold you need to cut in and paint the big surface all at once otherwise you will see a difference when it dries. If you are using normal colours it doesn’t really matter, but I would personally go round the room so I have all my stuff in the right place, get encouraged by progress etc.

i would put the skirtings on before the final coat too, you will need to caulk any gaps before they are finally painted. Again if the paint is at all bold you may need to redo the whole wall rather than just touch it up.

You should be able to paint a whole room in a day, but if you're doing evenings that might not be feasible.

If you are going to cut in the whole room in one go make sure you feather out really well or the paint will dry and leave a hard edge that will be visible even after you have rollered out.

You are right, it shouldn’t dry and cure. Plus edging in is a ballache. So doing it all at once painful. Your way is best,
