Round dining table

I am looking for a new dining table for a fairly large space. I quite like the idea of a round table and it would fit well in the room. It would be quite large at 2m diameter. Would love to hear from anyone with a round table. Do you love it or loathe it? Thanks a lot.

We were sat at a round table a similar size in a restaurant for a group booking. The family members opposite us felt a really long way away so it limited us all to talking to only the people beside us.

We have a large round one which extends to a very large oval. It's lovely and suits the room and it's an heirloom of my husband's but I do miss the long rectangular one I had in my old house. Given the choice and suitability for the room I'd go for rectangular every time.

We had one growing up and I'd love one again, I love that you can all see each other equally and it encourages more conversation etc and I think they look lovey. Only downside is the space they take up so we have a rectangular one at the moment.

We have one like this. It fits the bay window really nicely but it’s a PITA for board games.

It is! We usually have inner leaf in all the time but it's a nuisance taking it out for board games.

We've just ditched a round (ish) drop leaf table for a rectangular one as they're just much more practical. The round one took up far too much room.

I'd love to have one for family breakfasts and lunches. Just 4 of us. They make the room beautiful especially with a nice tablecloth.
For family gatherings it has to be a rectangular sadly. Too many of us.

Go for it!

I adore ours, which is 140cm diameter, no way would I get one of 2m diameter, you'd feel like you were at a wedding! Unless you have a gazillion children that's just silly. Ours extends in the middle to accommodate up to 10 people pretty easily. I think it dramatically changes how you interact with people. No way to 2m though.

I love a round table but 2m diameter is enormous! How many people do you need to seat?

Fretfulmum · 12/03/2023 09:08

I find round tables work better when they’re smaller. We have a 2m oval table which I find sits beautifully. I wouldn’t go for a 2m round

Round dining tables are the best, much more sociable, you can see & talk to everyone sat at the table
All my best family memories are meals spent at xmas with big family meals around my parents dining table, it was round & also had flaps in the middle that made it a giant oval

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 12/03/2023 11:12

I grew up with one of these and the matching chairs. Massive talking point.
The 150 cm version fitted our family of 6 fine (and a couple of friends at a squeeze). I still find rectangular tables strange!

Not cheap though! My dad's vice was pricey mid century furniture!

It's much copied at lower cost though, certainly for 4 seater versions.

WeCome1 · 12/03/2023 11:48

Ours is 120cm and then 160cm when oval and seats 8 I think. At a push. 2m is huge. Its bigger than a ten seater wedding table.

We’ve got a skovby one ….. www.cookesfurniture.co.uk/skovby-33-extending-dining-table/p7101?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIpengze3W_QIVC97tCh2TsAL7EAQYASABEgLcFPD_BwE

it sits 8 ok (9 at a pinch) and 6 very comfortably. Really like it. Mostly have it set at smaller size for just the 2 of us.
