Front door - inside colour?

PandasAreUseless · 09/03/2023 19:25

We're getting a new front door, similar to the one shown. The glass is 'satin' - a step up from frosted - it appears white and opaque. We're getting the door in Anthracite Grey.

Do we get it in grey or white on the inside? What have others done please?

The grey would work with our interior as our staircase is painted that colour. And the white glass in the door means the hallway wouldn't be dominated by a big solid block of grey. But is it odd to get the same colour on the inside as the outside?

Thanks! I'd like to avoid an expensive mistake!

I'd say it was very common/more usual to have a different colour externally and white internal side
We have had 2 doors like this. and I think unless you have white on both sides , most would choose white inside

Chasingsquirrels · 09/03/2023 19:49

I went for white inside.

I also had satin glass in the bathrooms, and in the panel in my back door - I regret using satin in the back door as it doesn't have any real visibility though it at all.

CharlotteStreetW1 · 09/03/2023 19:51

We have white on the inside (black on the outside).

It's certainly not odd to have the door the same colour both sides and sounds like it would go with your interior decor. Only issue is if you get bored of the colour I guess. White is safer in that respect.

White on inside to match inside of windows usually? Plus will be brighter in your hallway, and normally cheaper than the colour!

Babooshka1990 · 09/03/2023 20:03

Can I ask where you’re getting it from? We are looking for a new front door

Babooshka1990 · 09/03/2023 20:03

Oh and white inside for sure, or oak of your other interior doors are oak

ConfusionIsNothingNew · 09/03/2023 20:05

Ours is anthracite grey with a white interior....I thought it would look weird but I'm so glad we went for it in the end, it makes the hall so much brighter!

PandasAreUseless · 09/03/2023 20:32

Thanks all for the replies. Yes I think white will be brighter and better for future proofing, so am leaning towards that.

Just a local independent window and door company.
I found an image of what I wanted online, then the guy had a catalogue with every conceivable style of door for me to choose from, so I was able to create exactly what I wanted.
I imagine they all offer a similar service.

I had the same door and choose white for the inside. Glad I did as it makes the hallway brighter and blends in better internally.

Mine is white, to maximise light in the hallway, especially as we now no longer have the dual aspect of a a back door at the opposite end,

I have very similar and stuck with white inside. I wanted to maximise the light in the hallway. It works well.

beguilingeyes · 15/03/2024 15:35

We have sage green on the outside and inside. I prefer it.

I can totally relate to your situation. When I was choosing a new front door recently, I faced the same dilemma about the inside color. I've stopped my choice of one solid wood front door.I was initially concerned that having the same color inside might make the space feel too monotonous or dark, but I found that the satin glass in the door helps balance things out nicely. It lets in light and prevents the hallway from feeling too closed off with a big block of grey.In terms of style, I don't think it's odd at all to have consistency with the door color inside and out. It actually creates a cohesive look that flows well throughout the house.

I was thinking this. If I wanted the letterbox to actually be used, I wouldn't pick a door that had it right at the bottom.

I've always had white because you can then change decor as you see fit so it future proofs it.

zingally · 25/06/2024 17:37

I went white inside and out. I always wanted white on the inside, but was fairly neutral to the outside colour tbh! White was cheaper on the day.

A friend went dark on the inside, and honestly, it's made her hallway look proper dark/dingy!
