DIY Advice for Matt Wall Please

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for a little bit of advice from any DIY’ers or professionals about a wall I’ve just decorated in my kitchen.

I found a gorgeous dark blue/teal matt colour to match our kitchen equipment and painted a feature wall, I am so happy with the look and the colour, but today I have noticed it is so sensitive to any scuffs or touches and with a toddler in the house, touching is inevitable.

I am wondering is there any products that exist that could maybe seal it without changing the colour or matt finish?

Any advice much appreciated!
Thank you

Is it F&B estate emulsion? That scuffs really badly (the price you pay for that gorgeous matte colour), so we only have it in low-traffic areas. We used modern emulsion in the kitchen, which isn't as matte, but is much more hardwearing.

Sorry, no advice now you've painted!

Yes and on the tin it says wipable - but wiping made it look even worse! I could cry. Might try and find a similar colour and just go over it. Feel very disheartened 😆

We hav the same problem, have painted a feature wall with deep teal matt and it scuffs very easily, sadly th more matt the paint is easy it is to mark it seems, you can try pianting with eggshell or satin in top?

Thanks so much, I think I will see if I can get a colour match at a hardware store but with a more wipeable finish possibly 😣🙏

See if they do a 'durable matt' or something similar in your colour. As the name suggests these paints are more durable than some of the 'regular' matt paints and won't take on as many marks and scuffs. Some are even scrubbable so you can clean them properly.

You should be able to get the same F&B colour in Estate Emulsion.

Alternatively, B&Q have all the F&B colour codes on their Valspar paint mixing machine, so you could get it colour matched.

I'd suggest dulux diamond as it is very robust and dulux trade decorating centre should colour match
Valspar has very poor coverage for dark shades - lesson learnt from my mistake

Any Matt I have used has shown ever little finger print. Like I only had to get near
it and it marked.
would never use it again (apart from on a ceiling), which is a shame as it can look really lovely on a feature wall.

Do F & B do the colour in modern emulsion as that's more robust than estate?

I found that the F&B Modern Emulsion was too shiny, so now get the Crown paint linked to above mixed in F&B colours by Brewers, as it’s less shiny and marks can be cleaned off easily.
