Hi I was hoping for some advice regarding getting a mortgage. The mortgage that is now up and running was solely in my husbands name, we have been together for over 20 years, the mortgage however was only in his name. He has left for someone else but has said from the start the house was bought for our son. I need to be able to get a mortgage for £30,000 to take over the house. My problem is, is that I'm on PIP and don't get a wage. I was told by a mortgage advisor that there is essentially only 2 companies that will loan to people on benefits, one being Bar, whom I bank with and they have said no, so now I'm in a right state waiting for the other lender to get back to the mortgage advisor. I was just hoping and praying that someone on here may have a clue. or just any advice at all would be grayefully accepted, thanks in adcance.

Disability benefits are slightly different from other benefits because not loaning to someone on disability benefits comes under disability discrimination law. I would see if you can find an independent mortgage advisor. I am not 100% certain but I am pretty sure that there are more than 2 providers. My friend talked to HSBC about 5 years ago and they would have lent to her whilst on disability benefits.

Hi OP,

Will you be getting a divorce?
Until you get a divorce with a financial settlement nothing is final. Getting a mortgage in your name won't make the house yours it will still be a marital asset. I just don't want you to get a mortgage, take over paying for the house for years and then have to sell it in your divorce settlement anyway.

If he is saying you can keep the house get the divorce underway while he feels this way.
Does your husband have pensions or other assets - a business? He might want you to give up any other assets/his pension to keep the house. You need to get legal advice and a divorce with financial settlement.
