Buyer's survey roof issues

We accepted an offer on our house before Christmas, and our buyer has just had a non-mortgage related survey done on the house. A few things have been highlighted, and he is wanting to renegotiate the price. 3 of the things that have been highlighted relate to our roof - a lot of the damage we suspect was caused by the cowboys who replaced our neighbour's roof (terrace) last year but when they went up to inspect it last year said there was nothing wrong with the chimney stack.
We've been told that we need new flashings at the front and rear chimney stacks and some pointing and slipped slates replacing.
I've said that we'll get a quote from a roofer, and asked him to do the same then we can compare them and negotiate from there - does that sound reasonable?
I'm just wondering how on earth I get roofers out to give a quote - they quite justifiably will wonder if we are actually serious about getting the work done.
What is the usual thing to do in these circumstances? I wondered about saying that we will be getting the work done, just not sure who is going to pay for it - either us if the buyer wants it doing before he moves in (doubtful as he's keen to get in) or afterwards and we knock money off for the work??

You can offer to pay the roofer for the evaluation of the roof and the quote to fix any problems. Just be honest that you're selling, and it will likely be the buyer who gets the work done, when and if. The buyer has an incentive to use your roofer since they are already familiar with what needs to be done.

That's true. I've just called one roofer and he was really non-committal. To be fair I don't think I'd want to quote if we weren't going to get the job done. I was thinking I'd get a quote and say we are going to pay if before we move and the buyer if it is after we move. Don't think it'll be a deal breaker but it's going to delay everything as he left it very late to get his survey done

Contractors will generally quote on work for free because it's part of their sales process, but given the uncertainty, an offer to pay for a few hours of their time seems fair to everyone.

Thanks 😊
