Washing machine transit bolts - can't find mine!

Hello,

I'm moving house in a couple of weeks and have looked all over my flat and can't find the washing machine transit bolts that were initially attached to the drum when I first bought it, and which are then removed once the washing machine is set up.

Apparently you need to refit them before you try to transport the washing machine to stop the drum bouncing around too much when travelling, but I don't know what happened to them!

I've found replacements for my brand of washing machine online, but they're £11 each and I'd need five - just feels mad that I'll need to fork out over £50 to transport a six year old machine.

I'm moving from South London to Oxfordshire so it's not exactly a short journey.

Do I really need them or has anyone ever transported a washing machine without the bolts being reattached and it been ok?

if they’re a standard bolt type shape ( hexagonal head with a shaft , wholly or partially threaded ) and you have a part number ( by the sounds of it ) can you work out the diameter of the shaft ( in mm ) and see if Screwfix sell a pack in the same size or thereabouts.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Our current washing machine has moved house twice without them. It has survived. I suspect ours were thrown out along with the packaging when we bought the machine.

Moved many times never used transit bolts

cocksstrideintheevening · 03/03/2023 14:34

Never knew they existed, washing machine has moved with no issue

Hi everyone - thanks so much for your responses - that's all good to hear!

I think the transit bolts are usually installed when you're buying the machine new, and it's had to be shipped from China or somewhere so will have had a much longer (and potentially rockier) journey.

But sounds like most machines will survive transportation via UK roads so fingers crossed mine does too (it's not exactly new so it may not have much more life in it anyway)

And if they turn up when the packers turn up, then all good and we can reattach (think it's unlikely though...)

Our removals company said they’re not needed in modern-ish removals vehicles with decent suspension etc.

Unless you have a long journey, then I wouldn’t worry about it. I still had transit bolts for mine, it was quite new, and expensive, but I couldn’t get them in. We were moving just over 100 miles but everything was fine. I did ask The advice of the removal men and they said not to worry. If you’re not going far then don’t worry. Don’t forget, the machines have transit bolts put in them because they come over on big container ships, which is a bit different to being in the back of a van for an hour from London to Oxford.

Yep - that's what I was thinking - 30 days on a container ship in the middle of Indian ocean is definitely not going to be the same as 2 hours on the M25 or M40 (you'd hope!)!!

(Anyone else go into full panic mode about every little thing when they move house or is it just me?!?! 🙈)

I wouldn't bother with them to be honest. We've moved house without them too and it's not been an issue.

In fact, I have never heard of anyone putting them back in after they were originally removed on delivery. Can't say I have ever known where any of ours were ever put. Probably we just binned them.

Roselilly36 · 03/03/2023 15:10

We didn’t bother when we moved, 3+hr journey, machine was fine. Good luck with your move

What a shame. I loved the idea of being able to recycle some transit bolts to someone in need, but mine is an LG Washer Dryer.

i hope someone else may have some spare to share for your model.
