Planning a kitchen as follows-

elm floor
low units in blue
No high units but elm shelves
Wimborne white on the walls (cream/white)
maybe Delft tiles?
Cooker will be either a white Everhot or white rangemaster Elise
unsure about worktop- I like granite for practicality but would prefer a light colour.

What beautiful blues would you suggest? Edward Bulmer azurite is on my list so far.

I really like Dulux denim drift, it looked a bit grey when I swatched it but absolutely lovely on the walls. I had it on one wall in a large kitchen and the rest in Timeless.

Little Greene paint company Hicks Blue. I love a good story and it was a colour used in the 60s / 70s for the Post Office Tower restaurant by the designer David Hicks. It's a lovely soft dark blue.

Shelves instead of upper cupboards?

Are you sure? Think of the dust.

I think it's something that can look good in a shoot or a show kitchen but not in reality with all the stuff one needs in a kitchen.

I love blue though... seen some gorgeous duck egg kitchens.

Dulux Sapphire Salute for me

I love Oval Room Blue (f&b) but it might be a bit green for you.

Our lower kitchen cabinets and island are F&B Oval Room Blue. It's very definitely blue in our space.

We only have one upper cabinet plus a plate rack and faux plaster cooker hood - these are Craig & Rose Pale Oak.

Quartz is paler and can wear well.
I've admired a room in Dulux Fair Bianca ceiling and walls with dusky blue lowers like Navigator, Wild Clary, Frills, Silver Star.

I'd go for quartz over granite. You'd get the lighter colour you want, plus it's not porous like granite, so less likely to stain.

Omg get the 'Mylands' paint chart OP. I've only just discovered them. They're above F&B!

F and B Light Blue or Oval Room Blue. Little Greene Celestial Blue.

I had my kitchen units resprayed in Hicks Blue a couple of years ago and I love it.

@TattiePants that sounds lovely! It's a great colour I think.

I like F&B Light blue

BigSkies2022 · 02/03/2023 10:53

I used LG Brighton in a south facing bedroom, lots of light. I had Fired Earth Oyster on some of the woodwork, Slaked Lime on the ceiling. Looks good with various woods that are in the room. It's a lovely blue, with some green in it. Looks equally good in period or modern settings.

And I've also used Mylands for different projects, and echo a PP about being better than F&B (LG also, IME, better than F&B). They have some gorgeous olive tones which make me wanna paint something NOW.

I'd go for a light coloured granite/quartz as well. I have black quartz in our kitchen, and it's fabulous in terms of heat and scratch resistance. Must be 15 years old and still immaculate. BUT it does show up fingerprints and smears, and I'm convinced that a light colour would be much more forgiving.

Enjoy your new kitchen, OP, sounds lovely.
