GCH from scratch estimates

Has anyone recently had GCH installed from scratch?

What is the price difference between getting the radiators/boiler yourself, compared to a package?

It's semi 3 beds, one bath. Ground floor doesn't needs floor boards up as enough space to walk under the house.

Just a rough price guide would help.

Waiting on dig work for gas mains. Not wanting to get quotes until that's fully in with a meter ready.

Thinking about 10k all in, but not sure.

Thank you.

Anything that uses electricity is also going to get more expensive to run.

We've looked at all alternatives and anything using electric to heat cost a fortune, it's not just the install cost.

We've not been able run our storage heaters on high as we would normally do, as even on economy 7 they are crazy expensive to run just now to run on low.

Health comes first just now and it is the choice we had to make. I would rather have a healthy family and warm home just now. My youngest has always had coughs badly in winter, but this winter was awful without a warm house.

We were able to extend our mortgage by a small timescale to be able to install GCH.

how well insulated is the house? If you can max out the insulation first, then whatever other heating you put in will cost less.

I just paid £4800 roughly for labour on my latest Reno for plumbing and GCH install costs. It’s a 2 bed period semidetached cottage. This did include rip out costs plus the labour for also installing a bathroom suite in an entirely different room , a downstairs cloakroom suite ,washing machine/dishwasher, kitchen sink too. The boiler was relocated from an upstairs bedroom to a downstairs location. I supplied the highest rated energy efficient combi boiler (a10yr guarantee), rads, TRVs, thermostats etc so I could choose the style/price. I’d say you could do this for much less than £10k all in providing you get someone to provide a labour only quote, do not need significant changes to the pipework, are clear about where you want everything, and can control the cost of the goods to be installed. Remember an install in an empty house where the plumber can choose his hours and has no access restrictions is much cheaper than trying to install into a house that is currently occupied. Factor in costs of taking up carpets and relaying plus moving furniture etc if the install requires new pipework.

Good luck!
